residence visa exgtension/POA
Just a query, is it possible that if you arrange for someone to have power of attorney, you can also have this person extend your residence visa if you are not in the country when it expires or is it best just to extand the residence visa before you go despite the fact you wouldnt be in the country for most of the duration of it?
many thanks.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
You can't do this in the way you describe because they will hold your passport while they process the paperwork.
You can start the renewal process one month (I think) before the expiry date.
Depending on the area you live in, it ranges from a few days to months for the renewal to be processed.
If you let it lapse while you are out of the country you will not be able to use it to get back in.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
Brenda,
A poa is ok for extending residence permits but as mentioned, they will need your passport.
Also the emniyet doesnt generally accept extension applications untill after the permit expires and once so, you have a 15 day window to do this. normally takes 3-4 working days from start to finish but thats going by istanbul emniyet which is the busiest in the country.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
thanks for that folks. I take it that the other option is to let it expire, come back in on 3 month tourist visa then get another residence visa after that expires then.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
Hi Brenda.
This is the same situation that I am in.
My residency visa expired while in UK so I had to buy a 3 month visa when I came back in and will renew Residency when the 3 month visa expires.

The Passport Police in Fethiye now allow you to keep your passport while your Residence Permit is being processed. I don't know whether it applies in other areas but it might be worth enquiring.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
KKOB is right....last time i had my residence extended it took 3 months (grr) and it was getting a bit close to when i wanted to go to England. The Passport Police said if i wanted to travel to bring my passport in and they would give me a stamp in my pssport and a paper saying my visa was in the process so i could get back in ok if had to go before it was ready.
You can apply for residence while in the Uk at the Turkish Consulate so i guess there's a chance you may be able to renew an existing one from there too, though i don't know for sure.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
Dont do anything via the consulate. They only issue you with a visa and you still have to go and get the blue book once you arrive in Turkey anyway.
Passport is only needed at the begining of the application (for us we only need it for the first day) and is not needed once the paperwork starts moving around.
Take note, it is much quicker to apply through the emniyet HQ in the capital of your province and not at the local police station. Like I said before, Istanbul shifts through them in 4 working days from start to finish.

Re: residence visa exgtension/POA
Thats really interesting Starman.
I stay in Bodrum and have been recommended to go to Mugla as they issue the residency a lot quicker.
When I did mines in Fethiye before it only took 6 weeks but that was in the winter.
