Re: Residency rules update

Thank you very much indeed. I particularly like the additional comments that you make on the Kalkan forum regarding the changes. I wait with baited breath if anything is amended. I agree whole heartedly with the thoughts you have on people who renewed their residency, for say, 5 years, 2 years ago, but because they have been out of Turkey for more than 120 days in the previous 12 month period, will have their residency cancelled. This is nothing short of fraud, and MUST be challenged by the UK authorities.

There are some other important knock on effects that need to be considered here. (taken from the Kalkan site)

You can only join SGK, the Turkish government health insurance scheme, if you have residency permission. Technically, if your residency is cancelled, so is your SGK cover. We all need to understand what happens to SGK if someone falls foul of the 120 day rule.

Similarly, residency is now required if you wish to buy or sell a motor car or scooter. What do car or scooter owners do if their residency has been cancelled?

And the same consideration applies to people who have a phone/ADSL line. You can only get this in your name if you have residency. What happens when your residency is cancelled by this 120 day rule?

And if you can't renew your existing residency but you can apply for new residency, does this mean you will be issued with a new Kimlik number? Presumably it will, because continuing to use the same number will look like you have simply renewed your permit.

All these questions require answers. We hope to be able to bring some clarity in due course.

Re: Residency rules update

Very good points made jandj

We have 2 years of a 5 year residency left until Jan 2017
We are in SGK even though we are in UK for 6 months each year we willingly pay and have never used it but it gives us comfort at 64 and 54
We have a motorcycle / scooter
We have our own property

What a worry - what a mess - this wasn't supposed to be how starting retirement should be :-(

Ian, I have read this on a number of forums and facebook groups and on the face of it you will lose your residency and have to obtain a 90/180 day visa if you return, which would mean a max of 3 months.

Is that how it is ?

Re: Residency rules update

Yes - that is correct as it stands.
We will return to Turkey in early March and have spent 6 months out of the last 12 in the UK it seems we will need to purchase an e visa before we go as our ikamet / blue book will likely be cancelled - now personally we can make 90 / 180 work for us BUT........

Will I have to pay SGK until I can pay a translator to come with me to the local office even though we may no longer be covered?

Do I need to take out private healthcover now - having cancelled it 3 years ago so it will be more expensive now as a new "older" Customer?

Can I renew my motorcycle insurance in May and do the MOT?

Can I ride it?

Can I sell it?

Can I sell my property - could that be next????

Not happy this evening !!!

Unhappy Re: Residency rules update

Last year we gave up on the residency permit because we was to old to get insurance being 71 years at the time of application after having one for three years.
So we adopted the 90/180 Visa.

Last out 9th Oct 2014 going back on the 18th March. with 4 dates booked taking in what I thought to be 89 days Kalkan Calculator
Checking the Akbuk Calculator it states that I will be in Turkey 93 days (counting the day of entry and the day of leaving)

Booked a flight to go back at the end of the season to lock up etc and thinking the 90/180 would give 90 + 90 and now putting in the 3rd Visa I am over the permitted 90/180 by one day so it looks like I will have to travel later and possibly loose my incoming flight booking.

I wonder how many of property owners will be in this situation.
Bought A Villa to enjoy time in Turkey and now refused to be able to use it.

I ask my self is this what I bought into because I am now thinking it is time to get the Villa SOLD.

Re: Residency rules update

Just copied this from a another site hope its OK.

Just another thought now that the 120 day law is now in effect and you reapply for residency again. Those who had it before the insurance law came in too effect will you have to have SGK or equivalent health insurance for applying for the new residency.

Re: Residency rules update

Yes. Whatever restrictions/rules/regulations that are in place at the time you apply will have to be followed. Its irrelevant what the rules were when you applied the last time.

Re: Residency rules update

Can anyone put a figure to what the total cost would be for a new 12 month RP.

Obviously it's assumed that from area to area there may be some discrepancy in the cost, but I have asked a few times and no one seems to be willing to say how much it will cost in total.

I know the old system had a couple of things that had to be included in the 'initial cost' such as the blue RP book, but again, what about the new system?
Because with the 120 day rule and automatic cancellation of the RP but then allows one to re-renew the RP a new book would not be required again.
