Has anyone sold property without an RP

We are in a dilemma and would appreciate any help. With this new 120 rule, our future plans are up in the air. We are looking to sell our villa and our car and relocate. Are we able to sell our villa and our car without an RP? I have all other numbers, tapus etc, but don't really go down the expensive route of obtaining health insurance to get our RPs if we don't need to. Thanks in advance for any info.

You do not need it to sell your house but I believe you do need it to sell your car

Re: Has anyone sold without an RP

Dont need an RP for selling the house but you do for the car. Cheapest option to avoid health insurances etc would be to get a 6 month new STRP for the car owner and your travel insurance would cover you for that one (subject to it stating Turkey is covered and not just worldwide). Your partner wouldnt need one and could just use a tourist visa (subject to the 90/180 day rules etc. Even though a bit of a hassle it would enable you to sell the car with the least expensive method.

Re: Has anyone sold without an RP

Villabaris. Sincerest thanks. Forgive my ignorance, is a STRP a short term residency permit? If so how does this work. Really helpful information, thank you

Re: Has anyone sold without an RP

Yes, STRP is a short term residency permit - lasting up to 12 months - which under the new rules is the only one you can get unless you have eight years uninterrupted residency permits which allows you to apply for a LTRP (long term) for life, or a two year Family RP in certain circumstances.

You could get a 6 month one, using the same application process as the 12 month, which would give you time to do all the legalities you want.

All the new details can be found in the TLF well debated thread below

Re: Has anyone sold without an RP

Villabaris,

Can I pose another scenario.
How about if your RP has expired due to the new 120 day rule, but you still physically have it in your possession, could you sell your car with an expired RP permit?

Has anyone sold using just the Kimlik number and a copy of the RP?

Re: Has anyone sold without an RP

Thats another option to try of course.
If you remember there was a short period of time when some insurance companies in Turkey were refusing to renew car insurance because they were interpreting the new laws as saying not only could you not buy or sell a vehicle but you could not insure one you already had!

I know at least one insurance agent who used someone's expired RP and on another occasion found that provided you entered the first 2 digits of the yabanci kimlik number (99) you could then put any combination of numbers after it and the insurance company computer accepted it as it didnt cross reference to a name!

Of course, I am not suggesting anyone pursue these dubiously dodgy avenues but it is an interesting concept.
Some people however may sleep easier if they spend a few quid on a six month STRP .

Thanks. That's actually what I was told - you only need a copy of the RP and the Kimlik number. As you say. a bit dubious but maybe worth a shot if you want to save time and energy.

gosh, that's another worrying scenario. Can you still get car insurance without an RP. Until we sell the villa and car...life must still carry on.
