Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

Is there a certain time period for how long your health insurance should be valid for when you make an RP renewal i.e. will it need to cover the entire forthcoming year of the RP?

I ask because I currently have private health insurance that runs out about four months after my RP renewal date and I'm wondering if they will accept this at my renewal appointment or not. I will renew my private insurance but I can't do that yet until one month before it finishes.

Thanks

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

Your health insurance has to match the period of the RP. With only 4 months left on your policy, you will only be able to get a 4 month RP.

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

We applied for our strp to commence 30th April 2014. Our private ins policy renews on 5th Oct annually. Our permit was granted for the whole year but I guess as they could see we had had the policy since 2003 we had not taken it out specifically for the rp as many people have done.

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

We have SGK and were told that as long as its active when we apply thats ok. I was given 2 years permit 2 weeks ago. I couldnt say if they only accept SGK like this if you are married to a Turk though.

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

Thanks for the replies.

To be safe I'm going to see if we can get something from our insurance company to say our policy is on automatic renewal. Hopefully that will be enough.

If you apply for 1 year permit how, unless you take out insurance on same day,do you get full cover to match period of permit?

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

Just an update on this in case it helps anyone that is married to a Turkish citizen.

We had no idea about this but found out today that as my wife is a Turkish citizen who works and has SSK, I am automatically covered under her insurance so I need not have my own SSK or private insurance if I wished so (I don't). The officer we dealt with simply requires photocopies of her relevant SSK paperwork that I need to bring in within the next 30 days. Meanwhile, my RP is being processed and they have given me a two year extension.

My RP renewal was done in Istanbul.

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

As far as I am aware you are covered by your wifes SGK & don't require separate insurance.

We live in the UK, my husband is Turkish and paid his SGK when we are in Turkey I am covered under his SSK & I don't require holiday insurance for health care in Turkey.

Problem is different places in Turkey seem to interpret the rules differently

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

Hi not sure if you've had an answer to your question...

I applied for my insurance (private) a week before I renewed my residency. My residency renewal date was 18 September 2014 so I asked the insurance company to start the cover on that date.

Hope this helps.

Re: Quick question on RP renewal and health insurance

I have heard, not substantiated, that it is now compulsory for all over 65's to join SGK. Any comments?
