Grrrrr Residency Changes???

Hi,

I went to enquire about my residency renewal today & was informed that they are changing to what is effectively an ID card & takes approx 1-2 months to arrive from Ankara.

As my book is due to expire in next 2 weeks they are advising me that I will be here effectively without a 'visa' from date of expiry until arrival of 'new card'????

Oh, I will also be eligible for an 'overstayed' fine for that reason.

W.T.F???????
(Sorry I am livid at the moment)

Also due to the fact they completely cocked up my citizenship application resulting in me STILL waiting......
Can anyone shed light on this 'new card'???

Thank you

Oh just seen a whole thread on this issue...its a shame I did not join this forum sooner!!! Also shame that you have to rely on resources such as this, I mean would it really kill them to maybe send out txt notification/postal advising you of upcoming changes. I get crappy messages from 'polis' all the time.

Dear Ayse2015, don't worry.
First, if you read what is written in your blue book you will discover that, according to the old law, you have 15 days to apply for renewal of the RP after the old RP expires.
Second, as soon as you file all the documents to Yabanci Subesi, they will issue a certificate confirming that you actually applied for the RP. It looks like a mere sheet of paper, but it gives you the right to leave Turkey and to re-enter without the RP document. So after having filed the documents you will be free to either stay in Turkey or go abroad.

Also short term permits appear to be coming through very quickly now. In some cases only one week.

The 15 days rule no longer applies. You can now apply up to 60 days before the expiry date but no later than the expiry date.

Re: Grrrrr Residency Changes???

Thank you for your replies.

I am struggling to understand these changes! Are they just 'doing away' with the book & replacing with an ID card along with a ridiculous clause that if you spend more than 120 days out of Turkey your permit will be cancelled.
Can those persons not just gain entry on evisa & reapply? Nice little money maker they have there....
Do I know have to get insurance?? (I've always been covered under my husbands)
This is a joke...getting citizenship is a formality for me...I've been married 5 years...just hurry up & give me the card! Even the police man was questioning why I wanted another residency & hadn't received my kimlik. I'll need it more than ever now if they are cancelling permits as I had been spending a lot of time in UK with family members terminal illness...just more stress added on top for everyone

You won't need insurance if you're covered on your husbands at least that's one less thing to worry about x

İt seems the whole process is somewhat of a mess and changes are still being made. Re the citizenship İ don't want to add to your worries but a formality it is not regardless of how long you have been married. You will still have all the checks that they apply to all applicants and the new rules whereby they contact İnterpol to check if you have a record in your home country. Something the UK authorities could learn from the Turks.

Re: Grrrrr Residency Changes???

Thanks guys!

I'm not worried about the citizenship it is a mere formality for those married to Turks obviously having met the required criteria.

The UK does check for criminal records does it not? We had to provide police record check just for a visa, so surely it would carry out a further check if a residency visa was being applied for.

The officials never even bothered to come to my house to check that I lived her when I asked when they were coming because they sometimes go to my partners restaurant. They just checked off that box so to speak

Re: Grrrrr Residency Changes???

This law has been in operation for 12 months and seems to have settled down into a reasonably efficient processing scheme.

Ayse2015 . If you apply and the application is accepted before BEFORE your blue book runs out you will have no problems whilst waiting for your new RP to arrive as you will be given a receipt. if you need to leave Turkey in this interim period you can get a piece of paper from the authorities and if you stay out more than allowed maximum15 days you just come back in on an E visa
