Yet another Residency Permit Question

I tried to post this question on facebook to Doc Martin (Redders) but as I am still fumbling my way around it Iím not sure where it went...

Because a mistake was made on our last residency permit (which was no fault of ours) we have found out today that we have to make a NEW application which could and most probably will result in losing 7 years of continuous residency (as you can image we are not happy bunnies). If we apply for our residency before the end of this week the earliest appointment available in Mugla is the middle of September. We have flight booked in October to go back to the UK for 3 weeks. My question is once we have attended the appointment in Mugla are we allowed to go out of the country whilst our application is being processed and for how long?

Many thanks.

Trish

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

Until a more knowledgeable person gives you further confirmation, I believe the answer is 'YES' you can leave the country whilst waiting for the process to be completed, but 'I believe' you have to get a separate piece of paper to put/show in your passports which explains what is happening.

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

I believe you can leave the country for no longer than 15 days maximum. At the interview you will have to tell them that you want to go away and ask them for the necessary paperwork that you will to show at passport control when you exit and 're-enter Turkey. Don't forget to take extra photos.

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

İ left the country after my application and stayed out for a month. İ had papers isued by the Alanya yabanci polis. İ was told by the police in Alanya that İ could treat the papers they gave me in the same way as the permit. As you know different areas behave in different ways. İ had no problems either leaving or returning at Antalya airport. Check with the local boys.

I have also read on another forum that if you leave the country with that paper they give you, you also need to have your payment receipts. I don't remember if it was just for the application fee, but some receipt was also required for leaving the country.

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

Yes my payment receipt was attached to the papers the local boys gave me and they had a photo attached which had been stamped with a metal die stamp.

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

BB is correct. When you apply for your RP,all papers are sent (in our case) to Antalya. The office that does your permit will give you a piece of paper stating you can leave and enter the country till your RP arrives.

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

You never did explain what was meant by.." Because a mistake was made on our last residency permit". So no helpful answer could be given.

Re: Yet another Residency Permit Question

re the error on your last RP and thus losing continuous residency, have you tried talking with the english consulate? Often it is not a question of what you know but who you know.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my post.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you all; every time I sign in I keep having to chance my password... not sure why...

The problem with both our residency permits was the police put us down as being a 'family' (aile) on our last residency cards (not sure why, we did them individual because our marriage certificate was in the UK so we couldn't apply for 2 years residency). One of our turkish policeman friend rang the migration office in Mugla and they said we have to fill out the form for a 'New Residency' instead of a Renewal. The good news is we have just been informed that because our residency is still valid we won't lose our 7 years. Will double check this when we attend our appointments in Mugla in September.

I sent you a thank you message, Redders, on facebook (facebook name 'Patricia') not sure if you received it. Many thanks to you and every one who has replied.

Regards
trish
