Passport Valid for ? months

Not wanting to confuse any ongoing threads so am starting a new one.

The question is How long must a passport be valid for when entering Turkey?

I seem to remember that it changed not so long ago and now has to be 8 months from the date of entry, but even on at least one TR Gov site it still states 6 months.
Visa Information For Foreigners / Rep. of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs

So, is it 6 months or 8 months.

Old Fogy- what a good relevant question lol.

the 2 most recent blogs I can find re this are

1.https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...y-requirements

Passport validity

Make sure your passport satisfies all of the following criteria:

valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of entry into Turkey
valid for at least 3 months from the date you leave Turkey
valid for at least 60 days beyond the expiry date of your visa, e-visa or residence permit (visas and e-visas are often issued with 6 months validity so your passport may need to have 8 months validity at the time your visa is issued).

2.Turkish Consulate London

" *** As of 1 January 2015, in accordance with the article 7.1b of “the Law on Foreigners and International Protection” no. 6458, foreigners wishing to enter Turkey should carry a passport with an expiration date at least 60 days beyond the “duration of stay” of their visa, e-Visa, visa exemption, or residence permit.

Example A: In order to enter Turkey having a visa with 90 days “duration of stay”, foreigners should hold a passport valid at least for an additional 60 days which totals to 150 days (90 days + 60 days) of validity at the time of entrance."

If the advice on the UK site is up to date then I find that much clearer and easier to understand. The 8 months mentioned on there refers to the start date of your evisa and both refer to the need for your UK passport having to be valid for a minimum of 60 days following expiry of your Turkish evisa.

Hope so anyway.

Re: Passport Valid for ? months

Yes but on another site I have only recently started using it is posted as 8 months, so we seem to have some confusion, although I thought it was originally being said on this forum about requiring 8 months.

It's six months, beyond the expire of your visa.

So if someone is going to depart on or about mid October then their passport needs to be valid until at least mid Jan 2016.

I think I know someone (not me) who needs to urgently consider a trip to get their passport renewed before travelling or risk not being allowed entry.

Wrong.....and certainly not what the Doc is saying who you attribute it to.
He agrees with the UK Govt website and points out.....

The most important part to be aware of is that your passport must have at least 60 days validity at the expiry date of your visa or RP. The only exception to this is with regard to LTRP.

My apologies, it is sixty days not six months.

Re: Passport Valid for ? months

I came across the link below, which again may explain what I'm originally asking, but I find that also a little confusing.

Turkish Consulate London - Visa Information

Ok,
This as this enquiry was for someone else (honest) I think I'll just say that to be on the safe side they need to get up to the passport office PDQ and get a new passport or possibly suffer from not being allowed into Turkey on their arrival in a few days time.
