Passport and residence card

I am a US Citizen. My Residence card is expiring at the end of Feb. Was renewing my card when I found out my passport expires in May. Saw that the passport must be valid for the duration of the residence card. Will take a while for the passport to be renewed and then wait for the approval of the new Residence card. Any Ideas of what I can do? Can I get another visa stamp? Would I have to leave the country again?

Re: Passport and residence card

I don't know where you are located, but it is very easy and quite speedy to have your US passport renewed in Turkey. I printed off the forms on line, and made an appointment- they do not do walk ins- at the US Consular Agency in Izmir (0232 464 8755). There is a photo shop nearby, which they will inform you of, that takes a US passport approved photo (very specific, and VERY few places meet the acceptable criteria). The whole process, including going for the photo, took less than 2 hours, and I had my new passport returned to me within 3 weeks, and that was applying in the busier summer months. feel free to PM me if you have further questions.

Cool Re: Passport and residence card

I went through this hassle in May 2015. I decided NOT to send my passport by cargo or express mail because I wanted to make sure it got into official hands and that I got a receipt. I took the bus to İzmir.

I went to our local photo place and had my passport photo taken, I showed the photographer the examples on the web site and he did a great job as they were accepted without a problem. They sent my new passport by cargo and it arrived within about 10 days surprisingly.

The fee is $110.00 USD

I wrote them via email and got my appointment that way:
Phone: 232.4648755
Email: [email protected]

Here is the online information.
Online passport application form:

Renewal Info:

I had a Monday appointment so I went there on Sunday and stayed at a nice, comfortable and clean hotel called Guzel Izmir Hotel @ 66 TL
Guzel Izmir Hotel

Since I took Pamukkale bus, I was able to get their shuttle into town and their drop off point was two buildings from my hotel. Sweet!

I decided to scout out the consulate location Sunday evening which was a 10 minute walk from the hotel. I wandered around for over two hours trying to find the place. It was NOT MARKED in any way!! I asked half a dozen cab drivers who all claimed to know where it was yet none of them could show me.

The official address is one block over from the actual entrance. My appointment was at 10:30 so I was able to ask a shop owner in the same block and she showed me the entrance.

Look at the below and note the "official" address is on 1382 Sokak but the entrance is on 1383 Sokak (which is NOT named as 1383 but is called Mexican Sk.) Confusing? You betcha.

if it is confusing, let me know.

American Consulate
1387 sokak No 1/8 Alsancak Izmir
Mustafa Bey Cad./1387 Sok. No:1 D:8,
Map of this address:

Walk up to Mustafa Enver Bey Cd from the location marked on this map, turn left one block to 1383 Sokak (maybe Mexican Sk?), turn left again. When I was there it was across the street from Fırsat35. Look for Konsoloğlu parking and guard shack. There will be a hulking güvenlik (guard) around during opening hours and they will not let you go in before your appointment time. (Security you know, so tight, they hide the place.) It looks like an ordinary apartment and there are NO MARKINGS, NOR A FLAG to know you are in the right place. The güvenlik will show you.

PHYSICAL LOCATION:
Mustafa Bey Cad./1383 Sok. No:1 D:8, Kat.5
Alsancak/İzmir

I hope this saves you the hassle I had.

You make it sound so easy, are in in İzmir? Did you have difficulty finding the place? While I was there, two Turkish families came in from Antalya and also said they had difficulty finding the place. The woman at the Consulate told me that no one had difficulty finding the place. Ha!

Re: Passport and residence card

No, not from Izmir- drove up from Dalyan. The lady I'd spoken to when I made the appointment gave me fairly good directions, and I was lucky to ask the right person once I was in the vicinity- they gave me great directions right to the guardpost! I'm glad to hear there are more options now for photos, as much easier to have them taken beforehand. You've given a great set of detailed info and links- will be very helpful if anyone needs to go there!
