Question Anyone help please re Residency Permits

We flew from London Gatwick to Antalya yesterday and were pulled by the Passport Control at Antalya airport and detained in an interview room for about 20 minutes. They seemed to be confused that we had both got Residency Permits but also E-Visas. Initially they said we would have to be on the next flight out! But after much to-ing and frow-ing they realised that my Ikamet had expired in January and that it was ok for me to be in Turkey until 26th May after all on the E-visa.

However - very different story for my partner whose Ikamet runs out on 28th March. They said he would have to leave the country by 9th April and then return on an E-Visa.

Question is - can he stay out just one day - or does he have to leave for 90 days?

Any help greatly appreciated - also why 9th April when his Residency Permit expires on 28th March???!!!

Re: Anyone help please re Residency Permits

I would guess that the extension is in line with the 14 day extension allowed in extenuating circumstances after end of RP, but don't quote me.

Re: Anyone help please re Residency Permits

Doesn't make sense to me. If his RP doesn't run out until 28 March and he puts in an application to renew it before 28 March why is he supposed to leave Turkey and return on an E Visa?

Re: Anyone help please re Residency Permits

The point is SuzyQ that my partner does not wish to renew his RP as we have agreed to do the 90 days in future instead. Too much bureaucracy in Turkey - too many power cuts - too much terrorist activity - friends will no longer visit - hence 90 days here then 90 days there from now on throughout the year.

Re: Anyone help please re Residency Permits

I would have thought that he could leave the country on the 28th March and then return on an E Visa on the 29th March, the 90 day in 180 rule only applies to an E Visa as you know.
