Expired Visa Fines
Does anyone know where to look for information relating to visa fines. I know there was a thread on here the other day that it included it on a British Website but I am trying to find details on a Turkish site. Ive looked on the Turkish Embassy Website but could not find anything related to it. I think they are charging exactly what they feel like on the day!! so I need to know, if there is a table of charges anywhere and is it a) the same price everyday that is is out of date, b) incremented on a daily basis c) block payment for week month etc..
Any finger pointing in the right direction would be most appreciated :-)

Re: Expired Visa Fines
You'll find some info relating to visa overstays and fines here:
http://www.iem.gov.tr/iem/
It's an Istanbul site but I believe the info is valid elsewhere. Can't remember where the info is and I don't have time to hunt so have a look for yourself.
Generally speaking it's accepted that 20YTL is the daily rate although I've known of folk to only 10YTL per day and then one person paid 375YTL for 4.5 months. Get the impression that it doesn't matter what the "official" tariff is, it's very much down to the guy on the other side of the desk, on the day.

Re: Expired Visa Fines
Yeah I think your right - i got a 90 lira fine for 6 hours late - when I complained the guy told me "why, you would do that to me in your country" - nice!! My son just went to go to Kos and was a day late, they tried to fine him 90 lira too - was just conincidental that the figure was 90 lira again!! At least if i can find the info and print it out in Turkish, and HIGHLIGHT it!! then I can send him and his mate with that to shove up their noses, cos they are 4 days out now! might help. Anyway, thanks for the info John :-)

Interesting strategy! Contradict and humiliate a bureaucrat who may have discretion on how to act; yes, that should do it.

"May have discretion on how to act"?? eh i think you are contradicting yourself there mate if you think charging whatever figure comes into their heads is discretional!!!
If you want to lay down and let someone use u as a doormat, then go right ahead, just dont expect the rest of us to follow suit - there is no Baaaaaaa in my vocabulary.

Re: Expired Visa Fines
Funnily enough I had typed "whatever you do, do NOT wave a table of charges in front of any officials nose" but deleted because I didn't think it necessary...
A surefire way to get the maximum fine coupled with the maximum hassle. Bear in mind that the border police can legally detain you for something like 48hrs without any great reason, coming in OR out of the country.
best not to upset, just pay your fine and curse them afterwards.
