Re: residency renewal

You can start the renewal process inside the last 60 days before the end of your previous residency. It is pretty straightforward, but can vary somewhat according to location of the goc idaresi. The issue of the card can vary between 3 weeks and 4 months after the interview. good luck.

Re: residency renewal

It also depends on where you are. I understand Istanbul is a pain, but it's pretty straightforward here in Antalya. The list of documents you need can be found on the main e-ikamet site (I don't have enough posts to provide the actual URL). There's a tab at the lower right of the main page which will send you to a PDF form to show you the documentation needed.

For renewals, you can mail the documents in. However, every year I seem to enter some date which is not what they wanted, probably because the translation to English isn't very clear. And the system forces me to make an appointment. I just applied for a renewal online on Thursday, and there were multiple appointments open at the Antalya DGMM today (Monday). So I am going to my appointment today at 16:30. So the appointments in Antalya, at least, are just a few days away if you want one that soon.

I last renewed this time last year. It took around 30 days for my residence permit card to be sent to me.

Re: residency renewal

There used to be a set amount, but that rule was abolished some time ago. And you don't need to have the money in a Turkish bank. You just need to be able to convince the immigration specialist that you have enough savings, or regular income, to live in Turkey for the duration of the residence permit without working--regardless of the amount involved.

I talked to an immigration specialist about this. She gave me an example of a woman who actually didn't have much money at all (nowhere near the former standard of $500 USD per month), but she had very low expenses, cooked at home, didn't go to bars, etc... and she was given a residence permit. The immigration specialist emphasized that they look at each person as an individual.

In Istanbul especially (but probably other provinces as well), just depositing a lump sum in the bank may not suffice, because a lot of foreigners lately borrow the money, put it in the bank, get their residence permit, withdraw it and pay back the money. So instead they want to see bank records going back six months, or some similar documentation. Even if it is from a foreign bank.

In my case, I just went to my US bank's website and printed off the last six months of my statements to show the income, then gave that to the immigration specialist. That was just a couple of weeks ago. No apostille was involved (bank statements are not public records so they cannot be apostilled anyway).

It is possible that they will not ask for any proof of income or savings. But to be on the safe side, at least print off your last six months' bank statements and bring that to your appointment. Or if you have any documentation from the provider of your income, bring that too. Whatever savings you have, or whatever income you have, there is probably some documentation concerning it. So whatever that is, bring it.

Re: residency renewal

The guy who does it for me in didim says i should have around 24,000.00 TL in my turkish bank. I am reluctant to deposit that amount into my turkish bank as I normally bring sufficient sterling with me each time I visit (about 4 or 5 times per annum) I need RP as I have a motorbike and the requirement now is RP before you can own a vehicle in Turkey.
My last motorbike was purchased before the change in the law,so I had grandfather rights on that one, but it was stolen, so now the requirement for RP. I have a couple of healthy uk bank accounts, I'm hoping that would suffice.
