Question Free residence permits ?

My friend's daughter went to Kuşadası last week to renew her residence permit.
She applied for a five year one - her previous one was three years,I think.

She was told by the official there that once her new five year permit expires she wont need to pay again as she will have paid enough and will get her future permits free !!!!!

Can anyone throw any light on this?
Have the rules changed ?

Re: Free residence permits ?

This would be a first, that the Turkish will give something for free,
Having said that Turkey is now agreeing to free visa to Iraqis flying into Istanbul and some passport holders of certain areas of China.
To encourage the growth of Tourism and in light of the recent drop, it would be a good idea to allow all foreigners free visas, at least for the moment.
I dont see that happening though.

Re: Free residence permits ?

They have been giving free visas to many other nationalities for ages but then again the topic was about residence and not tourist visas.
As for a free one after 5 yrs.....not true at the moment. They are still charging up here.

Perhaps he meant that she could apply for citizenship and therefore wouldn't have to pay for a residence permit again.

That what she thought they must mean too ,KK ,so she asked for more details and was told : No she didn't have to apply for citizenship, didn't have to speak the language but would get a free residence permit.

And that came straight from the horses mouth - so to speak - from the official issuing the permits at Kuşadası.

It sounded unlikely to me too. That's why I thought I'd ask you clever people.

She's only 40 too - not retirement age.

You have to get your first one from Aydın but can get renewals done in Kuşadası.

Do you think there could be changes in the pipeline that are due to come in before 2011 when her new permit expires ?
