Re: Turkish id

You get a Turkish ID number (yabancı Kimlik numerası) by taking your passport to the immigration authorties (Ilce goÁ idaresi). There is one in most main towns.

Re: Turkish id

I have since visited (Ilce goÁ idaresi as advised by tlf members but they are only dealing with residents permit which I donít need at the moment
Is there another way that I can get id card?
There had been some talks lately on this forum regarding purchasing and selling property and people doing transaction are in need of foreign national id card.
How is that obtained without need for residency permit

Re: Turkish id

You do not need an ID card for the phone peole you simly need the ID number. the Goc idaresi people should be able to give you a number, but they are correct, they cannot give you a card. They cut off our VINN recently and my wife called Turkcell from Scotland, gave them her ID number over the phone and it was back on within the hour.

How do I get a turkish id card if Iím not a turkish resident but visit turkey almost every year

You may be aware that there has been a recent but significant amendment to Government policy & legislation - to require a 'Foreigner Kimlik numberí (YKN) for a growing number of transactions in Turkey. This requirement was introduced earlier this year for those wishing to register a mobile phone in Turkey: It was then extended to those wishing to open a bank account in Turkey and to the application for anyone wishing to have a home phone.

Most recently, the Gíment announced that with immediate effect, it is also now a new requirement for those wishing to receive individual internet in their home, and further advised that they are also introducing the requirement for those wishing to buy and/or sell their property or buy/sell a vehicle. This is clearly going to be a standard and increasingly uniformed requirement for most official transactions.

For those of us who have a residency permit (Ikamet Izni) they can of course easily recognise this number as it is written on their residency permit card (starts with 99)

For those who do not have residency this 'Foreigner Kimlik numberí (YKN) can also be obtained without applying for residency.

The current procedure to obtain your 'Foreigner Kimlik numberí without the need for residency etc is as follows:-

1) Obtain a blank form from the police station and complete your details.

2) Get 2 biometric passport size photos (you can get these done at most local studios)

3) Get 1 photocopy of your passport and your e-Visa (can usually be done where you get your photos done).

4) Take all of the above (plus originals for presenting) back to the same police office where it will be processed (from experience it can take approx 45 minutes)

5) The end result is the official letter with your new Kimlik number

Hope this helps, but please be mindful that many of the police/Jandarma here in Turkey are short-term conscripts, many do not speak English and this is all very new to them, so they may be somewhat confused. I find using the google translate app is quite good - but remember that it can't cope with complex sentences or the oddity of English prose to a Turk - so short, clear sentences seems to work better.

Best Wishes

Leo.

Re: Turkish id

Good points Leo, I think you get/return the form to the GŲÁ idaresi, rather than the police station though.

It may differ from area to area (this is Turkey - haha) but we were told that they are now all being done by the Police. Hopefully Redders can confirm so that we make sure the info is sound

I was supplied with the form at the GOC office and filled it in there in front of the official who issued me the number .
I did not visit the police station part of the building .
This was 3 months ago .

Hopefully I will get ikamet number soon. However could I get one for my daughter or does she have to be there in person?
