No residency appointment!

Hello all!
I applied back at the end of March and still no appointment. I am in Istanbul. Iím feeling worried because I really want to visit my family in the US in August. Does any one have any suggestions?? I am sort of an overstay even though I submitted my residency within a few days of my idea expiring. I donít want to be blocked from returning. Will I get an appointment ever? If not, can I make some request to let me leave and return? I donít want to invent a medical emergency but obviously in Corona times we are all concerned about family...

If you check my last post on the Foreign & Commonwealth thread there is information about overstay dates and visa limits which the Turkish government has applied to all foreigners. see below.
You will also have a US foreign office or similar website which should post regular information for all travellers to every country. Why not check that for relevant advice?

Visas
Turkish authorities have confirmed that any foreign nationals who overstay their visa, due to COVID-19, will not face any fines or penalties, provided they depart Turkey within 1 month of flights resuming to their country of citizenship. British nationals in Turkey who have overstayed their visa should make arrangements to leave Turkey by midnight Turkish time on 11 July.

If you have not left by then, you will be subject to penalties as follows:

Those departing from 12 July to 11 October will incur an administrative fine;
Those departing from 12 October onwards will be banned from Turkey for a period of time determined by the length of overstay.

Re: No residency appointment!

You can expect to be waiting at least 2+ months for a date if in Istanbul . Theres one hell of a backlog.
When you do get a date ,you need to check the list on the GOC website [or my Surgery page] & convert that to a posting date shown for you to send your documents.
Istanbul is at present the only city/province requiring a postal application, everwhere else is still by interview.

Re: No residency appointment!

Wow.. thanks so much for this update. Two months! Does that means two months from.. now? Like in mid-August?

This is probably not doable, but does anything one think it might be better if I somehow could show residency in another city to apply for an interview in another city? Even if I’m living in Istanbul maybe if I could get an apartment rental contract showing that I’m in another city, might that be an option?

Re: No residency appointment!

Oh, thanks so much! I do get the US embassy updates, it is really good advice to check with them.

So based on what you posted above, it looks like as long as I leave before October 12, I at least won’t get any type of ban on returning, even if I have to pay high overstay fees. I’m assuming that having submitted my residency visa application by the proper date at the end of my visa, still doesn’t illuminate the fact that I am an overstay up until getting an interview and getting granted a residency visa.

Are the administrative fines they refer to the same as the preexisting overstay fees? I found this website estimating some of those fees, but it might be old. Based on this website, for the US, the first month fee is $25 and the following months are $5..

Re: No residency appointment!

I cannot answer your questions; the information I posted was sent to UK citizens. It seems likely it applies world-wide but check with your own US Embassy for confirmation. They should have up to date information for all citizens abroad.

BTW, although the costs are priced in US$ you pay in local currency (liras) based on the exchange rate at the time you apply.
Good luck.

Re: No residency appointment!

Well scrap that! I just called and I got an interview :-) July 14. Thanks to everyone for your advice with the questions. Unfortunately the US Embassy was pretty useless, but 157 had a lot of good answers about the process . I’ll let you all know how it goes

Re: No residency appointment!

My STRP expired on 20 Sept 2020 and a new application was lodged on 18 Sept. Due to s huge influx of Russian applications at Kemer office I still do not have a date for my appointment. It is looking likely early November at the earliest. Our flight which must be on for medical reasons is on 5 November so if I just abandon the application can I go the airport and expect to pay an overstay charge. Has anyone the experience of doing this?

The best person to contact is doc Martin on this.
ABBA has posted his email address to day on the post the cost of a resident permit
