British Companies

Hi everyone.

Another question regarding work permits!!

I have a friend who is married to a Turkish man is considering starting work for a British company in Turkey.

Would she still have to apply for a work permit as she doesnt have a Turkish ID yet as only been married since June?

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks Debbie.xx

Re: British Companies

In Turkey work permits are employer (and task) specific. That means that only an employer can apply for a work permit for an employee and if someone changes jobs their new employer has to make a fresh application.

Technically, your employer should also reapply if you change positions within the same company.

Re: British Companies

Thanks a lot guys I will pass this onto her.
She hasnt worked in Turkey yet and wasnt sure what she was meant to do.
I thought it was the company who had to apply for her and as you say it is specific to that job, so in effect non-transferrable.

Thanks again.xx

Re: British Companies

There must be a middle point for self employed (who set up a Company) as I know a number who have established businesses, work in them openly, but do not have Work Permits.

Re: British Companies

If you set up a limited company, my understanding is that you are supposed to employ others (meaning native Turks) to carry out the company's business. Being a director/shareholder is not (meant to be) an alternative to having a work permit. I suspect the correct procedure is that the limited company has to apply for your work permit, even though you're a director/shareholder...

However, in real terms you're right Ian, no-one seems to bother.
