Virgin in Turkey
Hello All,
I have bought a 3 bed villa in Bogazici. Now I am having second thoughts. Some people suggest that I paid too much, that the area will take too long to develop. There are problems with the site and builder is not willing to set them straight. Tapu delayed because of recent law banning foreigners buying in Turkey. Roads are bad etc. Is it all bad news?
Wish I had something positive to say; not really a good way to introduce myself!
Regards
Rauf

Re: Virgin in Turkey
No of couse it's not. You just tend to hear of all the hassles on here. Go and enjoy your villa, sit on your terrace and have an Efes or G&T, look at the stars and listen to the call from the mosque. I had to wait for over a year for my Tapu during the last hold up and we were on a building site for over a year. Builder was not brilliant over snagging so we did it ourselves. It was worth all the worry as three years on I love it there now. Two weeks and I'll be on my terrace with a G&T - lovely.
PS don't tell them what you paid and then you won't have the comments. If you were happy with what you paid that's fine.

Hello Rauf, welcome to the site and dont worry about having second thoughts.....I think we have all been down that road!! I did too! With regards to paying too much....as soon as you purchase somewhere the amount of people who say 'oh you paid too much and I could have found that cheaper' is amazing.....dont listen to them just enjoy your villa, the sunshine and the beers n have fun.
p.s. Builders are never very good with snagging list......but we are very fussy too!

Re: Virgin in Turkey
I agree with the others. Real estate always go up in Turkey, especially in Istanbul. You might be suprised how high the prices are these days, but trust me it will be even higher a year from now. Even if you buy a property more than it's market value, sooner or later you will be able to sell it higher, it's just a matter of time.

Welcome to the forum, Kaplumba is so right we all have doubts especially when you are back in the UK but when you are in Turkey at your place it all fades away.

Re: Virgin in Turkey
Hi Rauf,
Welcome from a couple who have a villa very near there. Don't worry it will all work out. You must let us know where you are in the village, we have just returned from 1 week there. We are so happy, looking over the lake in the early morning, the stunning views, the local people are wonderful and make up for the bad roads, they cannot do enough for you. Drinking in the little tavernas on the harbour, watching the fishermen bringing in there catch, watching life at a set back pace which you will adopt.
It takes time to adjust, listen to your heart and not your purse and you will come to love it like we do.

Hi Rauf,
Kaplumba hit it on the head sit back relax & enjoy. We Brits have been paying over the odds for property for years & to me Turkey is still incredible value for money.

Hi Rauf
Are you happy with the villa and, if yes, dont keep trying to compare prices with others as it doesnt really matter.
You have bought your little bit of Paradise and as far as the area is concerned, thats in the lap of the Gods. Building is very extensive along the western coast of Turkey and development can completely change a place within a short time
Roads are always grotty mudbaths during building and our area was no exception 2 years ago, looking like a bomb had hit it. That was December 2005.
Its now April 2008 and suddenly last Autumn we had ROADS,LIGHTING, a DOLMUS (Bus) ROUTE and a TAXI RANK and STORE. Things like this can occur quickly and change the face of the area completely so be patient.
Most people have had builders problems but they can be ironed out in time and this Tapu suspension is just to enable the correct legislation to become law and it shouldnt last long.
What I am saying is, like us ,you made the decision to buy and its important to be positive about it.There is doom and gloom worldwide at the moment, not just in Turkey, so ride the storm like the rest of us and enjoy your home.
You can spend your life psycho-analysing every decision you make and someone has always done it better, cheaper, quicker, with less hassle, problems and chaos than you so just enjoy it!
Welcome to TLF

Re: Virgin in Turkey
Rauf,
I seem to either endorse Terry or he endorses me on such matters, so I will keep it short and sweet.
Be positive, enjoy and remember this is not a dress rehearsal !
All the best.
