Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

Have now booked our first trip to Royal Heights on July 12th.

I know the sea is a lovely clear turquoise colour but will my children need sea/aqua shoes if it is really stoney.

Any thoughts appreciated - Thank You!

Re: Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

You will need them as lot of beaches are stony, have a look here for some cheap ones Children's Aqua Water Shoes *Various Sizes + Colours* on eBay (end time 19-Apr-11 0958 BST)

Re: Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

I would say yes definately - I slashed 2 of my toes on barnacles on the steps last summer, the ones that go in from the sun bathing area. There is a kids beach area round to the right a little, but I didn't investigate, it did look stony. However if the kids are good in the water they can jump in off the decking and it's deep enough so as they'll not touch the bottom.

Re: Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

Where we are in Yalikavak, the sea is very stoney, however I cannot swim but I do like to go for a walk and a paddle, so I got my aqua shoes from a little shop in the village of Yalikavak, they were so cheap and do the job. I actually bought them for when we walked over to rabbit island in Gumusluk, but it was out of bounds last summer as it is now an archaeological site.

Re: Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

My advice for, what its worth, is YES YES YES, protect feet near sea. There is nothing worse than spoiling your holiday or your childrens by not taking simple precautions. Seeing a doctor is not only expensive but v inconvenient when time is at a premium. Nearest Hospital is Milas!! Although there is a IZAL surgery on FCC for basic FA. Not sure of opening hours.
Hope this helps!

Sea shoes are an absolute must, especially for children. There are very spiky creatures under the sand and they can cause serious problems, which need medical attention fast!

I second this......from harsh experience! I never wore anything on my feet for a few years of happily dipping in and out of the sea until one day on a pebbly beach. Got home and my foot was throbbing badly but no sign of anything untoward. Another couple of hours and I couldn't put my foot to the floor. Burning pain in my foot all night long and,in the morning,my foot was so sore and swollen and the tell tale marks of black pin heads. I was taken to the hospital where they told me I had stood on a sea urchin. ( Apparently they are soft so you don't feel them at the time-but they shoot their spines into your foot which then harden.)

It was excruciatingly painful for a week and I had to go to the hospital every day so they could slowly take the spines out one by one.

I always wear sea shoes now!! LOL. I got mine in Kipa and they are a sort of neoprene slipper which zip on and protect my feet. You can still swim in them ok. Think they cost around 20 TL.

Re: Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

They are a must at Olu Deniz as lots of people go to the beach at night and drink beer watching the sunset then the bottles are left and get smashed you can guess the rest.

Thanks for all your comments much appreciated.

Will get the shoes.

Never been swimming in the Royal Heights Beach area - are the Turkish waters really as clear/turquoise as everyone reports?

Sounds fab if it is all true

Re: Aqua Shoes/Sea Shoes

They sell them all over the place in Turkey for a just a few lira. I have been stung by a weaver fish and it was agony for a couple of days. Have a wonderful holiday.
