Question School entry

Hi all
Can anyone give me information on school entry.
Is a requirement for a child to speak fluent Turkish to be able to attend a school in Turkey?

Re: School entry

What age is the child in question and are you considering state or private schooling..? I believe the basic answer to be no, they dont need to be fluent but i'm not sure how much additional help would be available....that would depend on the school.

The family would obviously need to be resident and the placements are by location, i.e. catchment areas.

Sorry to be vague..perhaps give us some more details..?

Re: School entry

In Dalyan state school they will take them in the first school with no Turkish, but after that they must be fluent.

Re: School entry

Hi all thanks for info
The child is 6 years old and has a basic understanding of Turkish but does not speak a lot, although very familiar with Turkish culture , we were considering state school in the Bodrum area.

Re: School entry

A family that moved over here 4 yrs ago, settled in Kuşadası and put their 8 yr old son in a private school where the children are mainly Turkish, Dutch and British.
He was given 1 hr Turkish lesson every school morning before he joined his group and became fairly well fluent inside his first year of schooling.
That family is still here, very well settled into their new lifestyle. The best thing about this is that their son wanted to learn the language and wasn't afraid of trying out his new found skills when playing out with his new Turkish friends after school.

Re: School entry

You will need to get in touch with the department of education and fill in some forms and a school report from the UK (maybe not in your case as the child is under 7) they will then give your child a unique school number that they will keep throughout there school years. Our closest place was Aydin but we live in Didim
