Mysterious Electricity Consumption
Dear All
Hes anyone had experience of electricity usage while their property is empty?
Aydem have just removed a significant sum via direct debit but the property has been empty since last year ... meter switched off etc etc.
Any ideas/advice would be appreciated.
One option is to cancel the direct debit until next out but Asiye (English speaking contact at Garanti) appears to have left. If anyone has an English speaking contact for the Gulluk Branch, an e-mail address would be good for starters.
Don't think this is a case of 'uninvited guests' - but maybe some kind of technical glitch?
Thanks and best wishes,
Sunseeker

Re: Mysterious Electricity Consumption
Is your meter or main switch outside of your actual property for instance in a communal area ?

Re: Mysterious Electricity Consumption
Cant help with bank. You would really need to have meter readings do you have last one when you left and possibly get someone to get an up to date one and then decide if elec has been used.
When you say off at the meter, can anyone access this meter? Also do you have an outdoor socket? Have you turned off the internal circuits or just at the meter?

You don't need out door sockets J, from the meter you can bypass any sockets.
I've seem it done many times & the filling of swimming pools off next doors tap. I think in the OP case I would be looking to see if there has been a new property built close to theirs, if that be the case you can guess whose electricity was used to built it.
Pretty sure Aydem will not be interested in that, they want the money off the property owner.

Re: Mysterious Electricity Consumption
We had a Turkish builder connect to our outside socket for work on a property 3 units away, they never asked so we pulled his plug and waited, round he came most aggrieved, it seems the folk in the house he was working on [Turkish] would not allow them to use their electric! so obviously it became the Yabanci's reponsibility to supply power. My missus re educated him in that regard.
Someone is tapping into your supply or maybe just whipping out your meter and swapping it for their own, i have seen that done with water meters.

I agree, I was just thinking easier to plug something in to a socket for most people.

Re: Mysterious Electricity Consumption
I reckon if you put your meter in a metal box they would just force it open. The only way is to have your meter indoors & they don't seem to do that in Turkey. I don't know what the score would be if you asked Aydem to remove the meter whilst the property was empty?
Its a p*ss take & I have ripped into Turks about it in the past, they even tried doing it from our villa whilst we were in bed early one morning......... !!!

Re: Mysterious Electricity Consumption
The key to the possibilities is the location of the meter, public access or not

The only internal meters I have seen in Turkey are in apartment blocks, which are usually in the foyer, on saying that if the main doors are left unlocked even then its game on.
