Satellite System
Hi All,
I don't have a clue about satellite systems- however, they are selling a complete system at Lidl for £59.99. Apparently, it says in the info, it's easy to install by yourself and it can pick up 'Hotbird' and 'Turksat'.
Do any of you know if it would work over there?
Please don't be too technical as I'm a bit of a 'techno-phobe' and a bit thick when it comes to new-fangled stuff like satellites.
Thanks
Ann

Re: Satellite System
I also am no expert, but I think unless you are a techy forget it...You only need to read some of the threads on here about dishes the size of jodderel bank to get sky and other nonsense & rigmarole
I suggest you go to your local digiturk dealer, get a free dish, free box, card etc. (installation around 70ytl)and pay 39.90ytl a month for cinema package. Just a thought.

Re: Satellite System
Digiturk.
Basic package about 20 lira per month
Family package about 35 lira per month
plus many other packages.
As no-nem points out other systems require large dishes, programming or you get 1000 channels mostly in German, Greek or Arabic.
Unless you are desperate for a specific channel or requirement Digiturk is the easiest.
Fox sport gets you different sports including cricket. CNN turk gets you formula 1 and some UK football can be found. Other channels include Nat Geographic and History channel

Re: Satellite System
Yes it is easy to pick up Hotbird and Turksat with any dish as they are very powerful satellites. However you will only be able to watch any channels that are broadcast FTA (unencrypted)
If you want to watch film channels ETC then you need to do what no-nem
advised and get a digiturk subscription.
I have a 1.2mtr motorised dish in the UK and watch channels from all over
europe from over 30 different satellite locations. On hotbird there are only a few English speaking channels but plenty of good music channels

Re: Satellite System
I believe I have hotbird in Turkey and mainly listen to the music channels. Just something to watch now and then when on holiday. I also flick through the many channels for a laugh( as some are really weird to watch). Was going to just have normal tv, but when I bought a tv, the shop had a special deal on for satelites so just went for it and they came round and fitted it etc. Ok for a holiday home, but not for living there, you would need more English speaking channels.

Re: Satellite System
Yep, every so often Digiturk shuffle the channels round. You just ring them and the guys come and tune it all in to suit free of charge, and normally within 2 hours, as they have a mobile van in the area.

Re: Satellite System
I dont use my holiday home that much, so paying £6 a month for something that I would not use would be a waste of cash to me. But if people use it often or rent their place out, it would be worth it for sure. I only got to visit my place once this year, not going back til next March- April time :-(((((

Re: Satellite System
Thanks Folks,
I think I'll keep my £60 . Can anyone tell me if you have to sign up to Digiturk for a whole year or can you arrange it for shorter periods?

Re: Satellite System
yes , you can suspend it for 2 months at a time ie. have jan suspend feb and march . restart april suspend may , june ,and so on . that way it can work out to £30 a year. and you keep all the equipment . you still have to sign for a year ,but if you adopt the suspend system ,then you will need to set up a monthly payment system ,and keep track of paying and suspending . you can phone the call centre from the uk they have a english option . so it can be done .
