good for you. each to their own.
I prefer to support the local economy (and have had my fill of carting heavy stuff around in my hand luggage)

Re: Taking LCD TV into Turkey
Its a fair point that Thurstan makes. Things seem laid back in Turkey, but rest assured punishments can be much harsher than in the UK.
Imagine that you get stopped for something and prosecuted. Why jepodise your holiday, entry visa or residency application ? I realise I'm not really talking about tv's, but the principles are the same.
Getting away with things is not a good basis for recommendation of the practice. Breaking the law should never be advocated as "no problem". On other forums people have even talked about perscription medication that is banned in Turkey. They where saying how they smuggled it in ! Crazy !!
Anyone in any doubt about the punishments for this should check the FCO website, or maybe rent "Midnight Express" , or take a look at the "Bodrum Hilton". Nice.

Re: Taking LCD TV into Turkey
Thanks Mr Turkey, but after looking into the Turkish customs allowances, it would appear that you are entitled to take in "One TV". However, no where can I find the size or value you are allowed.
Therefore, I do not believe I would have any trouble at all taking in a TV, unless someone can actually tell me different?
By the way, I am all for supporting the local economy, but the reality is that expensive items like TV's are at least half the price in the UK, and I feel if I can be bothered taking out a small LCD TV (hoping of course, it does not get damaged in transit) the saving is better in my pocket thanks.

Re: Taking LCD TV into Turkey
Also, you could get a much cheaper deal on a non-LCD TV.
They want to get rid of the older CRT sets...I paid £60 for a 23" stereo one with all the inputs/outputs in 2006!

Re: Taking LCD TV into Turkey
After what the baggage handlers did to my box of apricots I certainly wouldn't trust them with a LCD in my suitcase!
