Live Premiership & Sports programmes in Altinkum

Hi all

Well I have taken an hour or so and read all the posts about receiving Sky etc in Turkey and have left our agent to get quotes for us when we return end of December.

Not really enamoured with having a huge dish on the roof to receive Sky so was wondering what the best package will be for most live sports and the most reliable way at a reasonable cost? - how readily available is Setanta who show lots of Spurs games for example??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I know technology moves very quickly. Have had a sky package since its introduction in the UK many years ago.

Thanks all

plymouthspur,
If you have sky at home take your box and connect up if you have the dish on your roof tuned to Astra. You can get lots of all kinds of programmes if you have a full subcription. You do not need a large dish! Keny.

You will need at least a 3 mtr dish to get any decent picture from the Astra satelite.

(Anyway, they don't show the Championship!! )

Sorry Kenny but you do need a large dish. You need at least a 3mtr dish as Smiler suggested but this would still not be big enough during poor weather or bad atmospheric conditions. A 4mtr-5mtr would give you a good and reliable picture with no loss of signal.
HERE'S a map that details the footprint of the beam from the Astra satellite. Basically the further you are from Britain the larger the dish you need. This is because the astra satellite is only beamed towards the UK as it is only intended to be viewed in the UK.

You could always look at Digiturk as a cheaper alternative

Re: Live Premiership & Sports programmes in Altinkum

Plymouthspur,

I have had Sky Sports/Movies/Childrens/National geo etc.. Basically from what I can tell most things apart from BBC, ITV C4 (I do get Five, E4) for over a month now with a 90cm Dish these channels are pumped out with a stronger signal than the terrestrial ones as normally people are paying a premium for them.

I have only experience problems when there has been a thunderstorm in the athmosphere or serious rain (which we have had in the last couple of days) this does not mean its off completely but it is less reliable.

I also get Showsports1/2/3/Showseries1/2 and lots of other dubai english channels along with UKTV which seems to show the current ITV programmes but not on the same schedule. this again is picked up with a 90cm Dish

The system was not cheap (800ytl) and 200ytl/year there after (No monthly fees) but it works, I didnt want to post about it when I got it as I wanted to give it a try first but seeing that I didnt have to have an enourmous dish I am happy with the servoce and the cost. You need ADSL for the system to work but if you are a resident and on this forum then theres a good chance you'll have this.

If you are Based in Didim area then Hakan Electroniks is the specialist, the others didnt have the same setup to guarentee service as they relied on others too much.

take care

Plymouthspur.....Do not waste your time fannying around with Sky, read the posts. Get Digiturk and premier matches, champions league and all matches live.Premier on TV8. Champions league on Star, and others on Eurosport etc.The dish and box is free, around 70ytl installation and from about 20ytl per month.

Most people I know that are on Digiturk are happy, if your looking for the matches and dont necessarilly need them in English (i dont think you can switch the sound) then go for that.

For me I use the Kids programms more than anything else and there is nothing comparable with digiturk.

Digiturk is guarenteed, hassle free - you just need to check its got what you want. its certainly better than running back and for to the satellite shop getting codes updated all the time.

take care

It's looking that way at the moment.....

Great reply - thanks

Many thanks to you all for the advice. Will let you know how I get on in due course. Moving out for New Year with lots to sort out still but this forum has proved invaluable.

Hope to get to meet some of you soon.

Re: Live Premiership & Sports programmes in Altinkum

Used to Have DIGITURK was ok for a couple of prog but not really good for those that live here full time (if youlike telly) so I got the new sat system (BAFF) installed which basically means they attach three recievers to the 90cm sat dish and then pick up the signals from Hotbird, Astra, & Heles sats ; you have to have two cable runs from the dish to the box. So now I get all the sports channels (not sky sport channels) but Show 1, 2 , 3 & series 1 & 2, Supersports and Arabic sports, lots of movie, documentry, music, kids and news channels (sky news, BBC world. CNN etc) (around 30 or so adult channels for those that want them)) the system allows you to change the language to the original, so if its in english but dubbed you can change it back. No ADSL required it cost £300 to install and 200 ytl to upgrade every year......now that said I have only had it in for two weeks and have had a few problems getting the SHOW channel i.e sports & series 1&2v (Oh by the way you can watch Coronation street on Show Series 2 and its about 3 weeks behind the UK). Now we have told the bloke in the shop we will give it another week or so and if we experience any extended loss of signal of the all important sports channels & corrie, we want it removed and our money back, to which he has tentatively agreed...........hmmmm!!! anyway will let you know what occurs!!
