Advice needed please for TV and Satellite system
Hi Everybody,
I've read various articles about what does or doesn't work best for satellite TV in Turkey and before I go off looking on my next visit, a bit of advice would be welcome.
First of all the property is in Gulluk, with Milas and Bodrum being our nearest towns.
We are only going to be occasional visitors to the property due to retirement not yet being in our grasp and when we don't use the property we hope to rent it in summer but just enough to cover running costs would be sufficient.
Given that we won't be there all the time (unfortunately) but we do have 2 teenage daughters and I like to keep up with world events and a decent football match, can anyone advise on what is the best satellite system for occasional use to cater for our requirements and importantly where can it be bought from and at what cost - together with a decent TV.
Thanks
Mushroom

Re: Advice needed please for TV and Satellite system
Basic digiturk even for occassional use I would say, but nonetheless someone will come up with a mathmatical equation for you using 8 dishes, tuning fork, compass, some kind of digibox that you can get for 10 bob in Lidls, and a secret card that is registered by a guy called Reg at a farmhouse in the Orkneys and who will tell you, you need to contact the Mongolian Embassy in Peckham for a new code no. This system can then be installed for 4 grand, which will represent very good value as you can get the Muppets in Chinese. LOL. happy hunting.

Re: Advice needed please for TV and Satellite system
Thanks No-Nem & Biggles.
I think No-Nem has encountered the Hi-tech brigade and like me is not requiring Emmerdale or Eastenders - I'm very low tech and like to keep it simple if it is for limited use.
I think that the basic digiturk set up at £6 a month sounds good to a Yorkshireman !
Unless anyone knows better
Can you tell me more Biggles please?

Re: Advice needed please for TV and Satellite system
mushroom, yes they supply the dish and the box and they fit it all for free.i think you just pay for the cable. its fully guaranteed ,any prob out they come to fix free of charge. you can pay up front for the year[cash in the shop] you get bbc prime news and quite a few english speaking channels .you also get the system where if a film is on [usually american ] you can press a button on the hand set and if they are talking in turkish it changes the language to english .really funny as they are babbling away and you press the button and it changes to english in mid sentencei cant tell you the channels as we are in uk at the moment ,but its the basic digi turk option. sometimes when you are there they throw in the whole high package in for 2 weeks just to tempt you to take it out ,but we are not interested .hope this is enough info ..we also have hotbird, but its useless ,you get hundreds of channels in foreign ,and 1 brit ch. although we have it we dont bother with it .

Re: Advice needed please for TV and Satellite system
Thanks for your advice.
Looks like it is going to be Digiturk. I would be guessing that Bodrum is the nearest place to go to 'sign on' from Gulluk ?

Re: Advice needed please for TV and Satellite system
Expect to pay circa 50 to 70 ytl for the installation, but worth it as it is hassle free.
