Hotbird has gone off

Things where fine this morning, little one watching baby tv -she leaves the rooms, so I took the opportunity to have a look at the news on atv. Changed back to baby tv and it wouldn't come on! None of the hotbird channels are working-just like that. Any ideas?

Hi Angiesco

I am out next week to my place, so will let you know if mine has gone as well, hopefully only a temporary thing.

Its not uncommon for satellite signals to disappear from time to time,usually unplug the unit then re boot it can get things back on,we have the same problem with digiturk now and then.

Re: Hotbird has gone off

Hi John, that would be good. It is still off and just went off all of a sudden and all the channels have a dollar sign next to them, which they didn't have before. Had a twiddle with the wires up on the roof-to no avail. Maybe needs re-tuned but as it stands I am not in a position to take it back to the shop to do it. Have to wait till my hubby gets a day off!LOL Turksat channels are all working fine-of course.

It sounds to me that the channels are now encrypted. Check some of the Free channels to see if they are still working, BBC world news or fashion TV etc. I know that some of the providers have changed the encryption over the last few days to prevent piracy. The dollar sign indicates that you need to pay for them

Re: Hotbird has gone off

Angiesco you should be able to check in the menu for the signal strength. If it shows no signal then it could be one of 3 things;
1) The dish alignment is slightly out or it could have moved
2) The LNB is faulty.(the block at the end of the dish)
3) The LNB settings are wrong in the box or have become currupt..They should be set to universal 10700-12750

I think it's unlikely that the box is faulty. If it's the LNB they only cost about £5.00 and are easy to fit

Good luck

Allan

Also, have you checked the cable. Our TurkSat Cable needed to be replaced, it had been blown about in the wind and rubbed though against the corner of a wall.
