A Warning.

Hi,

this is just to warn all you guys and girls when digging your gardens in Turkey dont do as Nik and I did, cut thro the telephone and internet cables.!!!!!!!

We were putting posts in to erect a fence last Saturday morning and all was going well.I came in to check my e mails and my computter wouldnt work or my phone.

My first thought was Id been cut off as I must admit I was late paying my bills.(naughty me)being a holiday the Turk Telecom office was shut until Tuesday. So Tuesday came and in my best Turkish i tried to explain my line was Olum(dead).Well half the people in the office burst out laughing as I was making cutthroat gestures with my finger. After about tem minutes of explaining as best i could I was sent into another office to explain all over again.I was assured somebody would be out on Wednesday to have a look.

Well I felt like my right arm had been cut off no phone line, and no beloved computter.I stocked my mobile with Kontours and tried to phone my children in éngland telling them there usual weekly phone calls were out of the question and that I woudnnt be online.

Wednesday arrived it got to half five and Id more or less given up on Turk Telecom when they appeared. They put a meter on my phone and told me it was dead. By now I was besides myself Id told them that allready.Off went the Turk Telecom man.In tears I went down to the Baskent on the sitesi and asked him if he could make some sense of the whole situation. He told me to phone the main office and explain.Well in limited Turkish and a very nice lady on the other end of the phone who spoke no english
I managed to use 150 kontours!!!!!!!

Back I went to the Baskent who again phoned them himself they would be out again on Thursday .Thursday came Turk Telecom man came again put the meter on again and said it was dead AGAIN.But and a big but he suggested there may be a break in the cable where we had put the posts for the fence.WOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Off he went.I was dumb struck what was I suppossed to do????Back to the Baskent again who yet again phoned Turk Telecom who told him we must dig up the garden, take down the fence, and find the break.Too late to do it will dig in the morning.!!!!!

Friday we decided to dig, we pulled out the fence posts took down the fence.and dug, and dug and dug,all our friends came round and dug with us.!!!!!!Eventually we found a break yes the fence post had gone threw the cable!!!!Woops.!!!!!Another phone call to Turk Telecom they would be out on Sunday at 12 a.m. to fix it.

Well we were told to dig even more as the engineer would need a good space to work in luckily the becki Ali said he would dig for us and at 7.30 this morning we were woken with the sound of digging.!!!!!!!!

12/a.m. came no Turk Telecom man I was raging by now and Nik had had a right ear and gob full from me.I suddendly looked up and there was Telecom Man.Well he looked where the break was and proceded to repair it.Once repaired he asked me to check it NO TELEPHONE!!!!Quess what we had gone thro the cable in another place I was mortified.!!!!!I went to get BEER.
So the Telecom man fixed this break and told me to check again.I ran upstairs picked up the phone and there was the dialling tone.!!!!!Hed done it.!!!!!!!

I ran downstairs telling the Telecom man SENI SEVI YORUM (I love you).

Moral of this tale; CAN YOU DIG IT!!!

BEST YOU GET A MAN IN TO DIG IT FOR YOU ONE WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TELEPHONE CABLES ARE!!!!!!!!!

Oh Maggie I feel for you. I am lost without telephone or internet and that sort of accident is the sort of thing that would happen to us. My husband once cut a cat flap in our back door and without realising it sawed through the kitchen cabinet behind the door. Don't tell him I told you it is still a sore point, 28 years later

The biggest laugh was that the cats hated the flap and mostly refused to use it.

Once l recognize where the underground cables are,l always mark it with a feature.Examples a sign saying underground cable, being held by a gnome,or a color code of flowers, red for danger, yellow for warning, and then if that still is ignored, white for electricution, followed by the floral arrangement of lilums and roses, which resembles.RIP

Hi Bob,

Think I might use your method from now on.!!!!!

Can I borrow you as my garden gnome please its only a short walk to mine honestly.!!!!

Little tomb stones are popping up all over the garden as we speak think Nik plans on burying me alive next to the telephone cables.

Re: A Warning.

Your lucky Maggie, on my sitesi they just seem to throw any new cables over the roofs of the villa's, wondered what this strange black cable was running across my roof when over the other week, followed it back one way where it dropped down to be tied with string to the next 2 villa's balcony, then down into a telephone junction box, went the other way, same thing tied to another 2 villa's balcony, then down into the villa five down from, not a sign of a clip anywhere and no thought to ask permission, so yours might be a nuisance but at least they are not unsightly.
