Nilesat update

Well I finally got the sat man to come out to align my dish. The bad news was that he could not get a signal as well. We can tune to digiturk and others but there is nothing where the nilesat satellite should be. My thoughts are now that I need a bigger dish than the 60 cm one I currently have. Sod's law says that I scrapped my old 110 cm one a few days ago. Can anyone advise me on the size of the dish they are picking Nilesat up on. Cheers Nigel

Re: Nilesat update

Mineis standard size connected to balcony railing aimed at Turksat, I had it re-tuned to Nilesat. I don't know the size but it looks to be the same as all my Turkish neighbours.

If the man that came out could not advise you then I would suggest get another man because he obviously does not know what he is doing. Tuning into Nilesat should be no problem if nothing is in the way, like a big tree. But then the man should know that and therefore recommend to you what to do.

Re: Nilesat update

I have managed to find a map of the footprint of nilesat, it seems most of turkey north of Izmir is outside of the footprint which would explain why he could not get a signal. I'm near Dikkli 100 km from Izmir . sods law .

Re: Nilesat update

I have mate thanks. We are just outside the footprint but people in the uk who are further outside can pick it up. Its down to the size of the dish and a few other factors . I am just trying to find out what size of dish anyone the istanbul side of Izmir is using to pick up Nilesat.

Re: Nilesat update

The main free English language channels on Nilesat are news channels such as CNN, BBC World etc, a few documentary channels, plus four or five movie channels from Saudi along with a movie and documentary channels from Dubai and Dubai sports and racing channels.
There are many others but they are encrypted and charge.
Astra is another free to air sat with things like Sky News, Al jazeera, France 24 and other news channels. Turksat also has a few English channels.
You can get all 3 dishes installed for around 200TL and 100 to 150 for the digibox although if you have internet, many people have gone down the streaming route through android tv boxes for live UK tv and masses of movies, tv series etc.
