4K Tv

So it's getting close to the uber expensive time of kitting out our new place and TVs will be a big part of it

4K- anyone any experience and more importantly are there only certain programmes in 4K or is everything in 4K if you have a proper tv Cheers

Re: 4K Tv

4K programmes and films are available, but I think we are at a bit of a 'tipping-point' in new viewing technology - and it hasn't yet established itself.

In the UK, Sky are doing their best to establish it as the new platform with their 'Q' box and of course both BT & Sky are showing most of their football with this as an option (no increase in costs if you have the Q box).

Amazon have established 4K as their standard platform - but the content & catalogue of what they have is a bit limited as yet - but it's the best way to watch the GT.

Not sure of what is available in Spain (or what you might want to watch), so have assumed that you will be watching UK based TV via a VPN.

Hope this helps

Leo.

Re: 4K Tv

Cheers Leo
So basically it's an expensive gimmick

Got caught with the 3D which didn't last long so with pennies very tight I will give the 4K a miss

I also cannot get into the big thing people have with curved screens- had a look and it didn't do a lot for me at all

Re: 4K Tv

One problem with 4k programming is that much so i read is upscaled from standard 1080 HD video , also some 4k tv's do not have a high enough refresh rate yet , so they downscale to standard 1080 HD.

But i am no expert.

Re: 4K Tv

Philip I got Samsung 9000 4k model a few years ago (curved tv thread) for the house in bodrum.Yes it a great TV but there is still not a lot of content available and to be honest not worth the extra cash.
If I was you, with your fancy villa in Spain I would go a standard HD Tv (forget all the Smart TV Malarky) and buy a good android box instead.....

Re: 4K Tv

Well to be honest having looked at the price of the 4K tellys and then when I tremble with tears in my eyes at the price of the pad wifey had us buy I reckon a black and white portable may be more in our budget

As regards the android box I simply use a Nexus 7 and Chromecast.

I find it a lot better than previous Droid Box I had

I have a paid App, £5 a month which gives me all fball inc 3 pm games

My Tv viewing in Espana will be a lot easier too as I can use a Freesat dish for all normal channels

Re: 4K Tv

Just bought a Samsung 4k and upgraded netflix to 4k content. The number of programs and films on there are increasing all the time. Most of the Amazon 4k content is available as an extra to buy or rent. Bt also broadcast limited 4k on their new box.(not much use in Spain I guess) I'm sure that unlike 3D it's here to stay and will be the future standard. The tv does upscale hd stuff and to be honest I can see very little difference between that and 4k, it's all stunning. BUT !!! standard definition is quite awful, tho that might be due to the size of the screen (55")

Re: 4K Tv

You surprise me Sir ...get yourself a good android box and stop messing around with Chromecast..The quality and performance of a decent android box is streets ahead of the early models and the Chinese knock offs.
Currently I have a Minix Neo U1 and it really is the dogs nuts...lighting fast and absolutely no problems(the remote with the keyboard is worth the extra)..Another good box is the Nvidia Shield which is also highly rated....I think Norman has that one.
Spend some money yea tight hoor!
