Is it cheaper to take out a DVD player or buy one in Altinkum, we were thinking of getting one and a small TV when we come out next time. Any advise very welcome. Also do english DVD's play on turkish machines

Re: Dvd
check the price in Migros - I am sure I saw them for around 40Ytl earlier in the year. That way they come with the right plug and you dont have the hassle of taking them out

Re: Dvd
I got one in Migros for £29 in the summer. The problem with taking one out is that if they catch you they may charge you import tax. Thats my understanding anyway.

Re: Dvd
They are really cheap here and you can get them from about 50 lira. They sell them in the supermarkets (normally the make "Show"). However, I would advise against buying a cheap one as they tend to stop working properly after a couple of months.
Starting with "no disc" so you take it out, clean it etc..but it wont play then you realise it is a copy disc so you think "ok" but eventually, you will put an original in and you will get a "no disc" reducing your watchable dvds to around "3" out of your collection and none of them being your favourites!!
I had a "show" (60 lira) and this started to happen after 3 months, ive had a vestal (100 lira) now for 3 months and it has happened twice grrrrrrr. Ive been told by Leo in the shopping centre (Altinkum) that he will see me a decent one although I cant say how much cos obviously he is selling it to me cheap! However, Im pretty sure if you spend about £50 on a decent one here you will have many happy years together!!
PS: One other problem with bringing one over is you may have one that is tempremental to playing copy dvd's which would be a shame as the quality is brilliant out here and of course, they are very cheap.

Re: Dvd
If I was taking one out to turkey I'd take a Liteon. Excellent players of copied dvd's and it'll last forever.

Mine plays everything, mp3, copied dvd's, normal dvd's,cd's., copied cd's,, jpegs,, I also own the same model and have it in my bedroom and it has been working fine for 3 years. I actually find some of the dearer ones do not play as many different things. You can pick a cheap one up off Ebay or Comet for say £20 and it does everything. The model I have bought for Turkey and also have in my bedroom is called Proline dvd 1200. It also plays Kodak pics. It is small and lightweight and because I had one in my bedroom and thought it was so good, I decided to buy one for Turkey.
