Re: My new scooter
Hey friar - Nice one !
We have gone the same way, got a couple of little scoots for zipping around on . Simply brilliant. Mind you, half of the fun is the weather.... which is why I wasnt so keen for the UK !
How did you get on with registration ? Me and the other half showed 50% ownership each, so that we can both ride . Got it on a "yabanci" plate which does restrict things somewhat.
Just love them !

Re: My new scooter
Hi Neil,
Our posts just crossed. In our case the bikes new cost just under a grand , that was with all the registration , insurance and so on included. This was for 125 cc scooters, one chinese and one indian i think......
I would repeat my "caution" about registration. You need to ensure that all persons who intend to use the bike are included on the ekmek. This can be a bit tricky to explain in the notary office and police station.
If married ensure that the couple are shown in the "red book" for use of the vehicle. Children of appropriate age can be included - but you need to ask for this.
Another alternative is for the users to show a percentage of ownership. In our case, me and the other half went 50/50%.
Get it right at point of purchase. Re registering can be very expensive and a bit of an admin nightmare.
For Bodrum its been brilliant ! We just love em !

Hi Neil it's a Yamaha 125 cc and it cost on the road 3200YTL (£1200) about half the price of what it would cost in the UK. You can get scooters from about £800 but I went for the Yamaha for reliability and when it comes to PX it is much easier to get a good price for a Yamaha or Honda.I walked in to the Yamaha shop on the Dalaman Road in Fethiye and the salesman is a great guy he speaks as much English as I speak Turkish 2 hours later I was riding out on my new scooter, he sorted registration tax insurance and even got someone to run me to the tax office to sort my tax number out for me.
I am very careful Gail and you do need to keep an eye on your mirrors and the road ahead my scooter came with a helmet included and I always wear it.
My place is in Uzumlu it is great to be able to pop in to Fethiye now without checking Dolmus timetables and you can park more or less anywhere and I can get my shopping in the top box and the compartment under my seat, it cost's a whacking 10YTL to fill it up.
I am also as you can tell from the pictures discovering places I would be unable to get to on a Dolmus. It's great fun but just be careful when out riding and enjoy.
