Uzumlu (Village of the Grape)
Uzumlu (meaning grape yard or place of grape) is located on a plateau which it shares with the neighbouring village of Yrncirkoy (meaning fig). It remains an unspoilt working village where its inhabitants depend on agriculture and traditional crafts for their income. The locals use the land to make their living and produce includes olive oil, tobacco, figs, wine, grape juice and vinegar. You will see fields of cotton, aniseed, wheat, barley and summer vegetables, and on the lower slopes apples, pomengranites, almonds and pears are grown.
Being 500 metres above sea level the summer night time temperatures are very pleasant and not as humid as down by the coast. It is very pretty in May as there are an abundance of wild flowers and in the winter there is a large variety of birds.
In the winter, a 20 minute journey will take you towards Carmeli, which is the beginning of the snow line where you will find slopes on which to toboggan or snowboard.

Perhaps this is a different Uzumlu to the one near Fethiye?
I think the main income is selling off land for development. Incirkoy might warrant the description of 'unspoilt' but it is only a matter of time before the sprawl of expensive villas in Uzumlu joins up to it. Foreigners, who have lived in Uzumlu for a relatively long (10 + yrs)time, complain about the blight of villa development on the lanscape and, as the land has increased in value, so the sale of land has increased to match demand in a much sought after location.

I think his point is that it will not remain an 'unspoilt working village' for very long if they keep selling off the land for villas.

Re: Uzumlu (Village of the Grape)
I think that is what is known as progress, surely everyone that buys a new property in Turkey is "Taking away from the local scene"

Re: Uzumlu (Village of the Grape)
Why then did you copy and paste a description that was obviously written some time ago, or by an estate agent wanting to sell property in Uzumlu?
To be frank, your initial post was a complete waste of bandwidth...

Re: Uzumlu (Village of the Grape)
But the information in your post needs updating to reflect the 'progress' that has been taking place in Uzumlu.
I'm not knocking the area as it is beautiful but your post gives the impression of a little village, untouched by outsiders and the 'progress' you mention. It's a bit like saying Whitby is a small coastal town in Yorkshire which relies on fishing for it's income.
Sorry but I agree with JohnF - if you are going to post about an area then at least bring it up to date. Otherwise it gives a false impression of the area to those that do not know it.
Sorry

Re: Uzumlu (Village of the Grape)
Stoop, you are gonna have to stop agreeing with me! It doesn't do anything for my reputation...
But a serious, on topic issue, is that there is absolutely no point whatsoever copying and pasting information from other forums or web sites when the information is either wrong or hopelessly out of date.
All it does is confuse those who don't know better and piss of those who know.
Keep on doing it? It's your choice. But the likelihood is that you'll get the same response.
And as for bandwidth... think about it as the internet equivalent to "hot air"...
