Buyguide

Over the last few months in my quest to understand all there is to know about buying property in Turkey I have been compiling a list of things that relate to buying the place and the running of it.

This led to develop an idea I had for a website where people can search for things they may hear during the buying process (or before and after for that matter) and get information relating to it.

Anyway, the page is part of my rateyouremlak site and has been setup at www.rateyouremlak.com/buyguide and I will continue to develop it over the next few weeks/months. Please tell me what you think of the idea and if you have any ideas for the site that may be of use.

Re: Buyguide

Hi Paul
Best of luck and hope it works ok
It sounds a bit like a "FAQ" section that you see on websites and the answer you want is never one of those listed haha.
Seriously it will be very complex to cover such involved issues. I wonder if just a bookmark link to where they can find the information such as the Turkish embassy site or others may be better rather than having pages of information on your site duplicating it.
A nice thought mate so best of luck either way.

Hi paul
Think this is a geat idea as it is very difficult to find out everything you need to know. It would be great to be able to go to the one place and get all info or links
i will watch with interest

Hi Terry, Yes it will be very much like a FAQ's section you see on agent websites but where I hope this buy guide will differ is that it will cover every aspect of buying/owning property in Turkey.

The main thing I want it to do is if a buyer needs to know something, they can go to one place and do a quick look up. Information on a topic can be updated as it goes along and new information added, visitors can even add snippets of info to help the knowledge grow.

I think its important for people making the comitment to buy to find out the ins and outs of the process for themselves rather than just relying on what the professionals. I believe the way to stop people from being suckered or making mistakes it to empower then by giving then the ability to ask the right questions and have a reasonable idea of what the answer should be. This buy guide is not and never will be designed to take the place of professionals.

On area I would like to expand on is the introduction of Turkish words and phrases that relate to a topic, I think this will help people immensly. However, I dont speak Turkish so may need some help on that as I go along!!

At the very least though I hope people will use this section of my site to find out a little bit more than they would have otherwise have known.

Hi Paul,

Its a good idea and reads well. With regard to "Rate your Emlak", I think it would be wise to obtain proof of company registration for the Emlaks on the webiste (Ruhsati from the Belediye and Vergi Levhasi from the Tax Office) which would instill confidence in the people viewing the site and save a lot of people a lot of problems in the future!

Hello Kym,

How would I go about obtaining the proof of company registration? Is that the certificate that emlaks are supposed to display in their shop?

I agree it would enhance the credibility of the site if only the genuine emlaks/agents were listed.

RYE has not developed as I had hoped to be honest, partially because my web coding skills are lacking. I have the ideas but its been a real pain so far getting things to work as I want. Ive still got a long way to go but recently Ive started to make some changes in the hope of attracting more emlaks to sign up for themselves (previously I have added many myself to get the database going) but I also want to make it a place where real estate agents want to come and promote themselves.

One idea I have is to allow all emlaks listed the ability to advertise some property directly on my site. Im thinking of say 3 slots for properties to be listed, whatever the emlak feels will best benefit his/her business, it could be the cheapest property they have or their newest development. This would allow buyers to find a list of all emlaks in an area and then go on to see some properties they have to offer.

Does that sound like something that would interest you as an emlak?
