Ladybird spider

we spotted our first Ladybird spider in Caunos, not one of my pics
they move pretty fast, it took me a while to id it on google apparently
there are less than 50 in the uk and they are protected. they are
quite rare in the rest of europe so imagine my suprise when a week later
I spotted one on our balcony in Sogut

[IMG][url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/gromit99/6114069732/]

This is the one retreating on our balcony

The females are all black and rarely leave their burrows
the males are only normally spotted for a two week period in May when
they hunt out a new mate both of these were spotted during the first two weeks of May

Re: Ladybird spider

Lovely pic's. I'm horrified by the amount of people I see just stamping on creepy crawlies for no apparant reason. Why do they do this, when they pose no threat ??

Re: Ladybird spider

There are some in the forest in Akbuk (hope none of them got hurt in the fire ;-(

Apparantely, the males turn this colour during the mating season when they go looking for the much bigger black females?

We have found quite a few when biking through Akbuk's forests, plus a huge female in our garden.....

They live in those white webs in the cracks of the forest floor - beautiful (and I am scared of spiders!!)

I am terrified of spiders, although I wouldn't stamp on one.
