can anyone tell me what this fish is?

We sailed (read chugged) along the coast today, pulling into a lovely quiet cove to do some snorkelling. During the afternoon we discovered a small shoal of these little thin fish.

I've looked online and can't decide what they are. The tails vary from the average pipe fish - flat and fan-like, and the snouts (nose, whatever the correct term is) is long and thin and opens much like a pair of sharp scissors. They liked my quiche and so I managed to get quite a few pictures. Unfortunately we forgot the underwater camera today!

Can anyone confirm what type of fish they are? I'm going to ask my diver friend but thought I'd post it on the new wildlife forum for fun

they are know as "mod-fish"-short on brain but snap at anything they see as a rival

They expel naughty points from their neither regions and take solace in looking into their rears hence the expression they are up their own asses

Look good on a plate of chips though

Re: can anyone tell me what this fish is?

Thanks everyone,

I've just asked my husband and he says it's Zargana (sp?) which is Keeltail needlefish in English.

Funny little things, there were quite a few of them.
