Bird Migration

Just noticed the first winter migration flocks heading south. Flock after flock of birds have been passing overhead some maybe only 50 or so birds but a few larger groups in the hundreds.

Not sure of the species although there were different flocks, one large group of about 150+ sounded like goldfinch but other flocks were silent as they went over.

They are fairly high and only seem to start at dawn when the light isn't so good as they appear as silhouettes in the binoculars and by about 7:15am it is over for the day.

Thanks.. it is hard without a full strength telescope
...this is the month that birdwatchers apparently gather on Camlica Hills in Istanbul to watch the migrations from Europe

I've watched the spring migration on over the Bosphorous from the hills above Sariyer, and have never seen so many raptors in such a short period of time. Certainly worth watching.
