Birds in Decline in Britain

l hear of many bird species that were once common in Britain are now endangered as well as declining in numbers. Many reasons why this is happening.Loss of their habitat, intensive farming, change in weather patterns, etc. But it is something l am sad about.
The corn bunting was quite common in the open countryside of Britain. But as their habitat deminishes so does this lovely bird.
Here is a photo of the lovely corn bunting at roost about 6 in the morning in late summer.l see thousands of these beautiful birds flocking together over open fields.
This does tell me that the corn bunting needs open wild grown fields to feed themselves which the Bulgarian countryside is vast and full of wild grown feilds. As for Britian the open fields are very limited because of the human activity continues to devour the wildlifes habitat without any proper management control when big money is to be made.

How l feel great sorrow for the wildlife

Greenfinches ... where have they all gone? Sparrows, Red kites, sparrow hawks, kestrels ... I'm overrun with them. Not a single greenfinch though.

A lady of my aquaintance in Turkey was bemoaning the abscence of songbirds around her house, the fact that there are always twenty plus cats hanging around her villa waiting for the daily feed may have something to do with it.
There are more consequences to mass feeding of strays than just smells mess and noise.

Re: Birds in Decline in Britain

Such a beautiful clear, sunny but cold day here in the North West today, we took advantage this afternoon and walked with our dog Monty, along the River Wyre Estuary, it is a lovely 4 miles ish walk and is also a Bird watchers' paradise. We saw lots of Tree sparrows, the song of the Blackbirds as dusk was arriving by now, and the tide was just on it's way out, it is very marshy along this walk, and, as we were heading back we saw very close by a Hen Harrier, and lots of little moorhens busying about the edge of the river, loads of busy blue tits, it is such a lovely walk but there being such a wet winter we've not had this luxury until today. Why didn't I take the camera. . Mind yo,u my attempt would not be as such a wonder as V6Cod (John's) fantastic birds in flight shots. Let's hope this weather lasts for another walk there tomorrow.

Over the week-end of the 28th & 29th January the RSPB are undertaking a bird watch survey, we can all help by watching how many birds you see in your own back garden and record for this yearly event.

The RSPB: Big Garden Birdwatch

For those who live here in the UK, it only takes one hour of your time to join in.
