Pink Butterfly

i had two very small butterflies in my garden today. they were about 1" from top to bottom, and about 1 1/2 to 2" across. and i've never seen anything like these before.
they were a deep rose pink , with black edgings to their wings, with no other markings that i could see.
i've tried different web sites but keep coming up with either pictures for tattoos, or cartoon type images. if anyone knows what these butterflies are, or can tell me of a good web site to look upon, i would be grateful. thankyou

Re: Pink Butterfly

Have been looking through my book of butterflies of europe and some of the females of the "blue" butterflies in the lycaenidae family display similar colourings of which you detail but without a photo I couldn't tell you which one.

Re: Pink Butterfly

don't have a picture of it, and it could well have been a moth. the closest i've found is the Cinnabar Moth, so maybe that was it.

Re: Pink Butterfly

Hi,
There is a website I used after seeing one the year before last here in essex, it is wwwwildaboutbritaincouk. (put in the spaces in the appropriate places) The butterfly I saw was a vivid pink, it was not a cinnabar moth. Once into the site there is a thread called pink butterfly, hope you enjoy reading all the posts as there are quite a lot.
