Re: Visitors

I had a red squirrel visit my UK garden regularly this year upto June when I moved. Last night was amazed to see a bat fly over my Brother's garden. Missing a bit of the wildlife where I am now, for some reason not as many birds, apart from seagulls. Diane

Re: Visitors

Wildlife makes one feel better.l remember a blackbird in my garden before l came to Turkey. And the remarkable qualities a blackbird has is their cheekiness.
We first of all gave out some grapes near the back door which went on for a few days. And the next time we went out to feed the bird.We found him in our kitchen helping himself to the grape bowl.
The poor thing panicked and ran off out the back door.He eventually got used to us and we won his trust where he took the grapes out of our hands.l'll never forget that. What a wonderful bird.

And all his offspring were well fed and all were healthy and successful.

I love it when the blackbirds. Sit in the sun and spread their wings just like they are sun bathing. We only have two

Re: Visitors

It's almost the time for the RSPB Survey of birdlife that visits your patch. We have many visitors to our garden, I do put seed, monkey nuts (in shells out for the regular pair of squirrles, rooks, jays and magpies) who love them.

Well today I have just made some bird seed acorns. I used:-

A pair of disposable gloves (it's a messy job)
Half a pound of Lard
4ozs of plain flour and half kilo of mixed wild birdfood.

Mix it all together in a bowl then carefully fill the acorn spreading the mixture into the acorn.

Thread the string onto the acorn before you slap all the mixture on.

I have along with their usual fayre hung these around the bird table and trees.

If you want to take part in this here is the link to register.

Re: Visitors

I would think this would fit very nicely into the "what did you have tonight" thread.
