Visitors

Had three visitors in the back garden over the last few days.

A squirrel. A Robbin. And to-day a wood pecker

All very unusual for us as two of them it was still August. And the woodpecker only ever had one before. And we have been here for over 30years

Re: Visitors

We have two squirrels and a fox that creep up to the pool for a drink every day. The fox has got a bit cocky and started stealing flip-flops.

Is this in UK or Turkey ? If former I assume that it was a grey squirrel which are plentiful, although there are red on the Wirral and on Anglesey and if in Turkey a red squirrel

Re: Visitors

A few years ago, here in sussex, we looked out of the front door to see a badger, 2 foxes and THE GINGER CAT FROM ACROSS THE ROAD, all eating from the same tray I leave for the badgers every night!
This summer I have noticed how many birds we have feeding, often 20 or more at a time and right through the summer, eating me out of house and home they are - it is said that if so many birds eat like that then we're in for a harsh winter. Yipee.

I have now seen an owl 3 times in my life twice in Turkey and they are so amazing to watch. Not a wildlife nut but these birds up close in real life are something else. Go owls!!!!

i had a baby grey squirrel in the garden yesterday, but there have been hardly any birds landing, although lots in the area, does that mean we're going to have a very mild winter in the north west?

Sounds like there are more birds in your part of the country than ours
The garden birds here see who has the best meal of the day .

As children my brother and I found a tiny baby owl abandond in the middle of a field. Took it home and he lived in 4 semi derelict rooms at the back of our vast old house. His name was Henry and he particuarly liked cowboy films on the TV, would fluff his feathers up and get very excited if there was a gun battle going on!
He lived with us for just over a year until we released him once we knew he could fend for himself - and we knew he could fend for himself because he would often stalk up and down the kitchen windowsill and deposit a small furry body as a present!
One night we heard him calling in reply to another owl and then he was gone for good, hopefully off to make more little Henrys and to take better care and not drop them like his mother obviously did.
