UK Forests

TLF members living in the UK may remember the furore in Autumn 2010 when the Coalition Government announced it would open up UK public forests for sale to private interests. You may well have joined in campaigns to protect our nation's forestry. Yesterday the Government announced that it had now abandoned this policy and instead it promises: "the Public Forest Estate will remain in public ownership, and announces that a new body will be established to hold the Estate in trust of the nation and manage it for the long-term benefit of people, the economy and the environment". So, well done to all those who campaigned for this; a great victory for people power.

Re: UK Forests

Indeed. But I think my supply of locally grown logs from sustainable forest will last me through to the end of the winter now.

Re: UK Forests

We used to live in the Forest of Dean. Much campaigning was done in the year before we left the UK. I'm glad that the forests are safe for the foreseeable future. Or at least until the Government at the time revisits and rethinks the current policy.
