Wild Lynx Cats
Wild lynx to return to Britain after 1,300 years - Telegraph
The words that concern me are' introduced to three unfenced estates'
I suppose some of you will think , like the big spiders in the bath, there's no cause for concern.

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
Is that like the nursery rhyme? Cat - bird - spider?

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
I was not aware that they were extinct in Scotland, I almost purchased one many years ago but was made aware of the level of care required. Beautiful animal.

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
I can recall one being shot somewhere in Norfolk about 20 / 25 years ago.
It was an escapee and had killed quite a few sheep before it was shot.
So you should be concerned Janet, anyone in rural areas should be concerned if they do indeed release them into the wild.

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
Anyone notice that many cats in Turkey have slightly Lynx-like ears, complete with the up-standing hairs at the tips of their ears?

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
The Lynx is lovely to look at but I don't think farmers with livestock will put up with them & I would be nervous if I had small children in the areas where they release them. I have a feeling they might not last long as my guess is given the chance farmers will shoot them.

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
I happened to be listening to Farming Today on radio 4 this morning and farmers are dead against re-introducing them. Lovely animals but probably not a good idea to re-introduce them now. Personally I think they will be shot or posioned just like many birds of prey.

That sums it up: farmers poisoning and shooting anything they donīt like - real guardians of the countryside!

Re: Wild Lynx Cats
To me it's about getting the balance right. Here on the river Swale they re introduced the lovely otter. Now it appears, according to Anglers, their numbers have dramatically increased and they are eating all the fish!! As they have no known wild predator I hope we don't end up having to cull some of these. Remember the otter hounds.
Wild Lynx I believe include deer, foxes, squirrels amongst their prey so let's hope they know what they are doing.
They are also talking about bringing back wolves in Scotland.
Who do we trust amongst the various pressure groups for differing wild animals and how it affects other species.
Not far from me. 20 years ago you wouldn't have seen this.
