Stone chippings and Gravel
Having spent a fortune on having our garden grassed after last years drought we have been left with just weeds. Would like to to put stone/gravel chippings down. Does anyone know if and where this can be obtained locally?
Thanks.

Re: Stone chippings and Gravel
We have a villa in Tuzla on Ayder off the main road to Bodrum cobbles are great but the cost is expensive and what do you intend to do afterwards cobbles are difficult to walk on whatever size and if you want to plant or spend time in your garden you are better with shingle there are many differen colours and you can alternate with bodrum stone in areas where you would like to sit etc etc hopes this helps

we too have tried grass (up to 2 times) and it all died in the burning summer. We have 2 small children so would like something on which they can play without getting hurt. I suppose you mean the brownish slates by Bodrum stone, but what's shingle? I only know this as what's being put as a roof on the pergules, but didn't think this could be used in the garden?

Single is fine aggragrate. Think they call what your after "Chakle" in Turkish (Not sure of spelling). But if you lay it you will still get weeds unless you lay overlayed thick plastic sheets or tight membrane first.

Re: Stone chippings and Gravel
Hi Gillian and Sherazaat
Have attached 3 photos, 'before during and after' of garden we did for clients. We also did the iron fence, boundary wall and put in bushes and trees.
First have to clear the garden, dig up grass, weeds, stones etc. Put down weed killer. Then sand then plastic membrane. Finally the small stones or as someone mentioned 'shingle' on top of plastic membrane. Yes Sapper you are correct 'cakal'. Just means small stones.
Alternative to grass but cheaper than slate(kayrak....Bodrum stone)
Saves on watering and less time gardening
Improved the price of this property when finished..... as the local dogs had been running wild on it when owners were in UK.
