Yalikavak - road conditions??

Hi all,

We are coming back to Yalikavak on the 29th March and have noticed on another thread that the roads may still be bad in the area. We had a car accident on the Torba road the last time we were over and my partner is now nervous about travelling on the Turkish roads again.

The route up to our villa (Geris area) was very muddy the last time we were over and as its on a very steep hill she was very nervous.

Can't wait to be in Yalikavak again.

Re: Yalikavak - road conditions??

In the village there has been a lot of work laying either telephone cables or the new sewer in the last couple of months and they haven't resurfaced yet just filled in with earth that gets washed away in the rain. So the "usable" bit of the roads is narrower than usual and the surface poor.

The road through the village from the Dolmus station through to Gumusluk has been shut at the Dolmus station this week. I haven't been that way so don't know what it is like.

They are supposed to be resurfacing in April ready for the season - who knows!!

Re: Yalikavak - road conditions??

Hi Ringspanner,

Our villa is also in Yalikavak, Geris alti, on the hill looking back towards the Marina, near where the fish farm used to be. To get to it we have to drive up a steep road which was very bad last time we were there in December. The road was actually repaired and resurfaced last summer, but now has deep ruts and holes in it due to all the heavy construction traffic. To be honest, I have never driven up it myself but my husband is ready to tackle anything!
We go back this Friday and I'm still wondering whether I should rush out and buy a pair of wellies!

Re: Yalikavak - road conditions??

Hi Montmaranne,

We are on the same site as Mandy and Steve (who I think you know). We got blocked in by a cement mixer (I think) that had fallen down a ditch at the side of the road. We ended up abandoning the car and walking into the village. Thank goodness we were not on the way to the airport !!

The roads were muddy and full of pot holes and to be honest very dangerous when we were there for New Year.

We are coming over again on the 29th March. It doesnt sound like there has been much improvement BUT still cant wait to be back.

Just back today from Geris. The roads are pretty bad. Detours all over the place. The torrential rain didn't help either. Roads are worse going thru Geris village and down the back road, which is sometimes open and sometimes closed. Mind you I've seen parts of Yalikavak I've never seen before!

Read this after I had just sent a message. I'm in the same road as Mandy and Steve, the road is pretty bad with a few big potholes by the turning into the road by the bus stops. Not too bad driving as long as you take care even the Turkish drivers have slowed down!
