Re: Dinghy Sailing In Yalikavak
Surely there's a sailing club somewhere?

Re: Dinghy Sailing In Yalikavak
There are very few decent dinghies in Turkey. Optimists for kids. a few badly rigged 420's and a few standard Lazers. Some of the holiday camps have Hobbie cats and just maybe a few Wayfarers. I know of none for hire outside the camps.

Re: Dinghy Sailing In Yalikavak
Thanks. Do you know if the holiday camps you talk about take "visitors" for the day? Can you tell me where they are please? Many thanks.

Many thanks.

Hi mrsbmoth. I asked a similar question some months ago,and was surprised to find that People in Turkey seem to go from 0 to 100K yachts in one go. we are yachties but thought it would be nice to have some sort of dinghy ( even Mirror or Enterprise size. We asked around but nobody knew of dinghy clubs. I then thought no Prob.I'll look at Yalikavak and Turgutreis on Google earth. I thought it would be easy to find a dinghy park ...No such luck. Our place is in Yalikavak,300 metres in from Marina. Where are you?? Pete

Thanks for that Paul&Emma. Yes ,I found that when I googled "Sailing Clubs" in Turkey. The likes of "Sunsail",which are commercial hirers of dinghies and windsurfing gear have hijacked any site you try to find " clubs " to push their product. The problem for enthusiasts is that once youve owned a £500 GP or Enterprise,or Mirror and Paid £50 per year for a Dinghy Park ,It grates to pay the equivalent of the value of your dinghy for one weeks ownership. Maybe its because I'm a tight fisted Northern skinflint ,but I avoid the likes of Sunsail. If we could find a Dinghy Park somewhere in Yalikavak ,two or three of us could club together to get a reasonable used Dinghy. ??

Over the years we have taken many Sunsail holidays. They are not really there for daily hire you book a week or two's package from UK or Europe, although we have managed a couple of trips where we just turn up and book by the day. Last year it was £50 a day but that included food, facilities and a room along with use of all equipment including day yachts. We felt that was pretty good value. You would have very little chance of doing that in high season though as they tend to get fully booked with guests doing package tours from UK. We have always liked them for the very high quality food/acommodation, good company and most of all the sailing kit which is generally of good quality and includes everything from sailboards to yachts. They also provide good safety boats which when we had kid's out in Lasers was very important to us. We haven't seen that kind of back up in any of the Turkish set ups. They have a newly refurbished club on the Bodrum peninsula at Camel Beach.

Re: Dinghy Sailing In Yalikavak
I agree Kaplumba that Sunsail are a professional outfit. As you say £50 per day low season ,If you wanted to sail everyday ,trail your dinghy to new bays to explore different places.,lend it to friends...you're stymied! In the case of my Yacht..If I were to charter a similar one it would be £1500 per week. With all hire outfits they want to recover their capital in one year. Scary.
