Re: Missing Dog - Yalikavak area

Glad to hear Bones has returned, but I have a few questions ... who is actually responsible for the dog? What if he is ever in need of a Vet who would pay? Do you think it might be an idea to look at insurance not just for Bones but did I read there is now a puppy on the complex. I had a big dog once and thank goodness he was insured when he became ill vet bill are likely to large whatever country you are in.

Unfortunately there is no kind of " pet plan " insurance in Turkey - i wish there was cos it would save me a fortune on vets bills !
I think all ( or most ! ) of the owners on this site would contribute towards any vets cost for both these dogs

Re: Missing Dog - Yalikavak area

My concern is that everyone on the complex might think someone else will be looking after the dogs and no one else actually is. That gives certain unscrupulous people the chance to dump the dogs. There is a "memo" that circulates from time to time about "They thought that someone had told them but someone had told no one "...blah blah the outcome being that nothing was done!
Hope this will not be the case Juls.

Unfortunately the puppy died - she wasn't very well when they got her from the refuge, the vet gave her some medication and she seemed to improve but later developed a very bad cough and runny eyes and nose which we think may have been distemper or something like that - poor little thing. A lot of us chip in for vets fees and food. Nick and Sylvia are in Turkey until the end of September and our gardeners look after Bones over the winter - we left food to last him over last winter. He's well looked after and it's a much better life for him than he would have had.

Yes, I think there is another puppy on site which is around 5/6 months old and they think she may be coming on heat and attracting the street dogs to the site. They're taking her to the vets for the sterilizing operation (not sure what they call it). So Bubbles, you must be either an owner on the site or live very close by to know they're having a bit of a problem with the dogs wandering on site?

we had a a prob with stray dogs on our site . seems to be ok now and we banned dogs [ownership ] anyway. what i mean by that is residents were feeding and encouraging them ,then going back to uk and abandoning them, then when people [renters ]were coming for a hol ,they had the prob of the dogs sitting on the patio waiting to be fed. obviously a dog cant work out why its been abandoned. it was a problem as the could not leave their kiddies alone to play on patio with 2 or 3 big dogs there all day .

how does that work?if someone buys a property and owns a dog, then holiday-makers decide to "ban" dog ownership?always puzzling to hear about these decisions being made by some which affects others.not that i bought on a complex or site for that very reason

you did not read what isaid properly ,no one owned the dogs or bought them .they just fed them while they were there and then went back to uk or ireland. leaving the problem for those that came after for a holiday. all owners [tyhe majority ] took a vote to ban stray dogs from the site .if someone wanted to live on site and own a dog that was up to them ,but they had to undertake to control it [as you would in the uk ] . when i say ban stray dogs they were no longer encouraged to come on site by people feeding then and then leaving them . dont get me wrong if i lived in turkey full time .,i probably would not buy on a complex ,but when you are 3000 miles from turkey its comforting to know there are people employed on complex 7 days a week plus security to look after it ,so you got to have rules decided by majority of owners at annual meetings where all owners can put their point of view and vote accordingley.

To vote for a change to site rules you need to have a majority vote of 80% of the owners. Biggles, I agree that it can be comforting to have people employed on the complex 7 days a week - you just need to be sure that you have the right people employed on your site!
