Re: Yalikavak dog poisoning

My heart goes to you we are animals lovers and that is the one thing that really gets to us is the cruelty of animals, not only in Turkey but Cyprus and a lot more places. We are in the uk and have just taken a rescue cat in .Our other cat is ok now with her after the bit of hissing lol.We were in Cyprus a few years back and was at these apartments. 4 tiny kittens bout 4weeks old had lost their mum in a road accident We fed them and even phoned animal rescue but they vanished at the hands of the caretaker the same night.

Re: Yalikavak dog poisoning

I agree with Ang, the animal cruelty in Turkey is ONE of the reasons I decided I could never live there and certainly never risk taking my own dogs there who are used to 2-3 mile long runs in open safe countryside every day here in GB. We also have Turkish neighbours out there who keep thier dogs in a pen day and night, day in day out, even though we have set aside a large area of our own well fenced garden and told the neighbours they are free to let the dogs run around there in safety. I can't bear to think of the poisening of those lovley street dogs Sue and Ibrahim have cared for - just keep a close watch on dear Blackie. In several respects I am increasingly finding it too harsh a country to really enjoy - it probably always has been like this, its just that it takes time to really see what goes on behind the prettily painted tourist facade. Its been pouring with rain almost since we got back to UK a week ago, but I know where I would rather be. On a happier note, while we were there we did manage to save an injured kitten and get 'Mum' spayed before re-uniting them in a safe enviornment.

Re: Yalikavak dog poisoning

This week there have been quite a few dogs killed by poison. It is certainly some sick individuals doing this. I know for a fact that the belediye and the zabita are not responsible. They are aware of what is happening and are trying to find who is responsible. There are heavy fines for this kind of thing. Most worringly, the poison thats being put down is very strong and can be deadly to children and can cause blindness and worse. Today I have been picking up dead cats and birds, including blue jays, kestrels and other species. The zabita have asked to be advised of areas where animals have died so that they can investigate and de-contaminate.

Would anyone like to adopt this puppy Ang is talking about? It is a greyish colour and a bitch about 8 weeks old now. I have tried to take it but my dog goes for it and Ang has cats! It is still having tratment from the vet at Angies expense and we are both feeding it as it is only getting bread!!! No amount of talking from the vet is making any difference, its tied ouside all day and night to this makeshift kennel. Please ask anyone you know in the Didim/Altinkum area, our vet is looking to as he thinks it may die if left too its owners Thanks.

Re: Yalikavak dog poisoning

I, like Sue feed alot of the dogs and vet them as well. It is heart breaking to learn that poisoning is going on in Yalikavak. I hope the perps are caught or enjoy a taste of it themselves (by accident)!!

Your to be admired Sue for all the endless help you and others give them. This may sometimes feel a thankful task but if you saw the excitement one street dog gives to me when he sees me again, it makes it all worth while. I couldnt hurt one hair on any of their heads. They are so grateful for any tiny bit of attention they get.

I cannot believe someone would tie a puppy to a kennel and leave it for days. Thanks Ang for looking after it. Try and find a home - it's not easy in Turkey but there must be someone out there.

The dog situation used to make me physically ill but I have found now that if I concentrate on helping when I can, it makes the situation better. I have even past feeding duties onto others and it really helps.

It's great to be barking mad.

Back home we have an effective way for the police to solve crimes that have come to a dead end. The name of the program is called "Crime Stoppers".

How it works is if the police are given a tip on a case they have open and the lead turns into being valid and of enough value information wist that the police are able to get a conviction then they offer a reward to the caller that reported the information. the caller is promised they would never ever be revealed and their identity is protected 100%.

Maybe something like this would be effective if bringing these criminals to light.

Maybe a fund for this could be established to help these innocent animals.
I know just the guy to chair this kind of thing......Bob...(not me,the other Bob)
