Banks in Yalikavak ??
Ive never noticed banks in Yali. Can anyone recommend any. I'd never considered opening an a/c over in Turkey but our maintenance company doesnt have a UK bank. It would seem sensible to get a bank with internet facility. Looking at the various Bank threads on TLF there seems no consistency about the rules for opening an A/C. Some say Tax No + Passport . Others say you need those + a form from the local police ? I was going to approach HSBC in bodrum but a few people on here have been taking the rip out of their service ,so maybe I'll go somewhere else? I'd hate to get all the way out there and some bright spark say that i need some bit of paper from home...like a specific Utility bill !!
The situation for us is that we have Tax numbers, and obviously Passports, but we dont have TAPU .(although we do apparently have military clearance ) I dont know if that makes any difference?
The comments of anyone who has recently done this as a Yali owner would be appreciated. Peter

Re: Banks in Yalikavak ??
Hi Peter,
We also have a place in Yalikavak and opened an account with the HSBC just off the main Bodrum road on the right hand side after the Oasis centre. We only had to produce tax number and passport. We have found the HSBC very good, very helpful in the branch (several English speaking women) and great internet site. Their web site is much more comprehensive than the English version of the web site. All is in English so foolproof. We opened a lira account but transfer money for short term (30-59 days) into an E-deposit account which currently pays 18% interest (yes 18%!!), less about 15% of the gross interest for tax which they take off at source. We also have a debit card with the account to pay for groceries etc. We pay a monthly "bank charge" of 3.75 YTL which we knew about prior to opening the account.
The only surprise we had was that each cash withdrawal has a charge of 0.95YTL. We didnt realise this and were withdrawing small amounts each day !! In future we will withdraw more significant amounts.
Hope this answers a few of your queries.
Griff and Dawn

We also use HSBC near Oasis, no complaints so far.I have been thinking of using one of the Banks in Yali ( near the grave yard). I never change money now just use my Nationwide card in the ATM's to get cash out of my UK account.

Re: Banks in Yalikavak ??
Hi Pete/Mag and Ringspanner
I use GARANTI Bank. There building is by the roundabout at the top of the main road down into Yalikavak,I have highlighted it on "www.wikimapia.com"
I also needed Tax number and Passport.I chose it as it is only a short walk from my apartment and it has a very good e-banking system so I can monitor money movements regularly.I have a "Time deposit account" which pays interest monthly into a current account from which I pay Sitesi fees, electricity bills and insurance. There is always someone who speaks English and are always very helpfull.Unfortunatly there interest rates are not as good as Ringspanner's (HSBC)
Good luck with everything and hope to meet up sometime.Hosca kalin
Have just been reminded that there are no charges on these accounts and I intend to use my Nationwide UK card at ATM's for cash withdrawals as previously mentioned as I think it is free.

Re: Banks in Yalikavak ??
Thanks for that info everybody.Perhaps there are regional variations with banking policies.Another thread on this subject has thrown up a few different answers. Do these banks eg HSBC have a minimum deposit amount ? If they want thousands ,I may have to reluctantly sell " The Wife "

Re: Banks in Yalikavak ??
Another Garanti user here. There are quite a few girls in the bank who speak good English. Any e-mails we have sent have been attended to and answered promptly. Last time we were there we left instructions on changing our time deposit account when it matured, the instructions were followed exactly. Their interest rates vary depending on the amount of money you have in your time deposit account. We have a debit card and have also applied for a credit card - we'll see whether that has come when we go back in two weeks.
