Nuts!

Everytime I go to the thursday market in Yalikavak I get fleeced at the nut counter. No matter what I buy, normally a combination of hazelnuts, walnuts n pistachios, the bill seems to come to 50YTL. Anyone cracked this one?

Re: Nuts!

Is there only one nut seller at that market? Buy each type individually, asking the price per kilo/half kilo and, if necessary, go back three times!!

Re: Nuts!

Same here Carol and I shop at the market in Avsallar which is outside of Alanya. I've only bought nuts twice and been charged a huge amount so I don't buy from the market any more I buy from Migros or any supermarket which sells loose nuts. I've also found since living in Turkey permanently, that clothes on the market are also more expensive (even after bartering) than you can get in the shops in the bazaar.

Re: Nuts!

Being a veggie I make my own nutburger thingys when in Turkey (since I can't get Sainsburys own out there) and I too found the nuts so expensive that last time we were out, I actually took some with me bought in UK!
As for clothes, I have yet to find a 100% cotten T shirt that doesn't have some silly brand name on the front and is anything better than Asda. But I can buy shoes in my small size and have a good selection, so all is not lost!

Re: Nuts!

Let them weigh out all the nuts and then ask how much it is.

When they tell you, just say "sorry that's too much" and walk away.

Then go to Kipa.

You're in a funny mood tonight - have you been kept in that cupboard all day?
