Re: using sterling at koctas

As far as I know Koctas WILL NOT except sterling.
At Yapi Kredi Bank in Bodrum I changed £7000 into YTL,no problem.
Mind you in the Spring of 2005 there was an awful lot of CASH about in Bodrum.Maybe you would have to give a few days notice to a Bank nowdays
depending on how much you want to change.Good luck and enjoy Yalikavak
I'm going out on Sunday.........Serefe!!P.S. Not so much at Koctas etc. but
I found that "cash" can be used to "negotiate" better prices for some household goods

most banks will change up a few grand with no probs , but maybe you would be better leaving the money in your bank and using your card to pay , a much safer way to pay larger amounts , or if you put into an account here and take it out before you go to kipa.
also sometimes the better way of doing it is to use a money changer , such as here most people use the jewlwers as they give a better rate

I am not sure if those stores accept sterling...but I know that the banks will change large amounts. I think u r only allowed max 10000 euro per person to take into turkey as cash in any one trip.

as already said - why not use your credit card?

also - note the new regulations that limit the amount of cash you can take out of the country

alternatively - transfer the money to an accouint in Turkey and draw it out in YTL. But why bother, use the plastic; its so easy (and wouldnt you do that at home?) I rarely travel with cash these days

If you use an english credit or debit card in Turkey you will pay charges, so use either a Turkish debit card or Nationwide Debit card if you are going to use plastic. No hidden charges then.
