What? No Water?
Hi
Is anyone else experiencing problems with council water supply? One day it's off, then there's very little pressure, then there's loads of pressure and then, yes, you've guessed it - it goes off again!
Please advise
Cheers

Re: What? No Water?
We have the same problem with lack of water. One day on, one day off, its been hppening since last October. I have no answers but assume it may have something to do with all the new sewage works as it appears to have happend at about the same time. Would also be very interested to know as typically for Turkey, one hears 20 different reasons!

Re: What? No Water?
When we first moved into Kaya valley we hardly ever got water, we would carry cans from the mosque, we eventualy bought a donkey to do that for us and I would often cycle to the village center at about 0300 hrs in order to turn on the supply to our corner of the valley. We visited the Khymacan on numerous occasions and displayed petition boards outside our house. Things are better now we can count on at least one ton a day arriving in our remote tank which we then elevate through two separate pumps to our collection of tanks on the mountain above our house.
Several years ago I wrote a piece for Today's Zaman critisizing the indiscriminate building of swimming pools in areas where water is scarce, pointing out that local families are fighting for water just to live on.
One newcomer to Turkey wrote to the paper contending...
[quote]
If a property is purchased, complete with a pool, why would the purchaser check the local water situation? After all, everyone sees the shopkeepers freely watering the dusty roads all day long. We all see the water disappearing out to sea via the canal, et al; everywhere you drive there are water fountains, pouring water out 24/7 so surely there can’t be a shortage of water? It couldn’t be that the writer forgot to provide himself with adequate storage, could it? Most of our local farmers have their own wells, anyway. [end quote]
So you poor guys please feel free to come to Fethiye to fill your cans from the canals.
PS The same person wrote that swimming pools can't leak because they are made of concrete [like your roof!]

Re: What? No Water?
We checked with the council and there is a severe water shortage in the whole of Bodrum. They will be giving water for one day only then off for four days. This will be continuing during the summer - today is a water day so get the washing done quick!
