Angry British Embassy

Hi has anyone had any dealings with the British Embassy in Bodrum ? unfortunately some English people who were staying in Yalikavak for two weeks holiday had burgerlers in the villa they were staying in on their last night, they were all packed and ready to go home on their return from there last meal in the village some unsavoury person had broken in and stole their passports, flight tickets, money, credit cards, mobile phones, cameras, video camera and numerous other items. Needless to say they could not get there flight so next day went to the British Embassy for help and they required 1,500ytl for replacement passports they had no money whatsoever so a family member in England had to take money to the Foreign office and they then confirmed to the Embassy the money was there then they issued replacement pasports. They then booked them on a flight to Gatwick instead of Birmingham and were stranded there at 3oclock in the morning. A lovely couple came to their resuce and bought them coach tickets back to Coventry.

Re: British Embassy

that's a sad story, but considering the news lately with holiday breakins at least they weren't harmed.

Wouldn't there insurance company help them - I would hope mine would if the need arose.

this is typical of the help you can expect from the embassies whichever country they are in.
i sometimes wonder what on earth they are doing...

That is indeed sad news. I haven,t had any dealings with the British Embassy in Bodrum. However I must come to the defence of a British Embassy after Shirleys comment.

Last year I hemmoraged after an operation and required 8 units of blood. I have an unusual blood type. The friend that was caring for me at the hospital contacted the Embassy in Antalya and they found donors for me. Without their help I would surely have died.

hi Rainbow..thats good to hear..and i hope you are fully recovered...
maybe my comment was a bit harsh and i know they cant help people out with ticket money etc.
i had dealings with a consulate in a different country that was unhelpful
so that coloured my judgement..

Re: British Embassy

Thanks for the info SuperBogs and Biggles but I'm a little confused as you both seem to have given different locations.

Now you mention it I seem to recall walking along Cafer Pasa Cd last year and seeing a sign for the Consulate towards the Bodrum end of the road.

Lets hope I won't need it!

Not now it isnt. Moved some time ago. Come from the marina on "one way system", up past the army camp, and its about 100yards on your left after the camp. Dont know the name of the road, just how to find it.
